the more you play, the more opportunities for things to happen. its a given.

i'm sure we've all been hit with everything, from getting hit with a flat dropshot that bounces off our head, to the full teeth jolting power of a full on smash to the back of the head.

some of us has even been hit with racquets too due to miscomunication. :p

probably occurs more often at lower levels of play.
occurs much less often among players of higher level and more experienced players, but the damage is generally more severe when it does happen!

This usually happen when the pair has a big difference in height and the shorter one is at the back and the taller one is in front in an attacking position.

If the front tall guy do not keep a lower profile and stand slightly further away from the net, the short guy at the back smash or dropshot path is quite limited.

I haven't had a smash hitting me.. narrow misses aplenty (zinging past the ears).

I did, however, contract conjunctivitis thanks to a hit from my partner.

We were in offensive mode, he thought he could reach one of the shots, took two steps back , tried to clear the shot, his backswing hitting my above my nose bridge.

The rest... is history. One week of demonic red eye.
Scared lots of people on court.

If it happens, it means that your partner is pissed off at you. Try not to piss him off anymore, or you might get the dreaded racquet to the face.

I was recently hit near the eye by my partner with THE racket! The wound spilt open, have to go to the doctor to tape it up.
Btw he was standing in front of me, so don't ask me how he manage to hit my eye! I am keen to know myself.

Back swing from the racquet. Players playing doubles single style. It's a matter of communication and trust within the team. If one is not pulling his weight, the other might be tempted to take on more coverage responsibility... a recipe for disaster in the making.

Guilty of that myself. I am never really sure of where the sphere of coverages are for each person. Also since I am on a fairly low level, their is a lack of consistency in what is suppose to be covered and so forth. So my question is, how to avoid these painful disasters ahead of time and avoid learning from trial and error?

i have hit my partner on the back before. i have been hit with a racket on my arm near the shoulder (oh yes, it hurts like hell, but i continued to play). mostly i believe are due to miscommunication. especially when playing with someone you have never played with before and dont know whether they can read the way you play. and sometimes it is because they have no faith in your ability and attempted to get all the shots themselves. alas, accidents happens. if it is my fault, i would say sorry and when it is my partner's fault they would say sorry. so long as there is no malice in the act, no big deal. :)

I saw a person do a crossdrive, nearly hit his partner (so it seemed)...
the rally was over, and the tip of the feather made a tiny cut in the frontplayers cheek...scary stuff...

myself...shithappens... Especially when your 2 meters tall, stand upright and have a partner with a crosssmash-fetish...
I crouch down now ;) (and haven't played with the guy for 2 years...)

i believe it's not the tip of the feather, but a part of the sticks with the feathers. i've been cut when stroking the feathers too hard before

Hitting your partner is a common accident during game play because the tendency of the back player is to smash the shuttle towards the direction where the front player is facing the opposite court. This is intended to enable the front player to kill any weak return. My racket has also been hit several times by the shuttle coming from a smash from my partner.

You need a regular partner, not just for playing but someone who trains with you. At the very least, play with someone who's knowledgeable about proper doubles rotation (assuming that you know how to play rotation already or willing to learn). Doubles is about balanced teamwork. If your team is not balanced, then it can be exploited by your opponents. That in itself will minimise accidents, not eliminate them.

Hey, i got a question, well, this is a bit off topic, but I had a friend who did a smash and the birdie hitted his partner's head, and then suddenly, the birdie bounces off the partner's head and went over the net and was inside the court. Would that consider as an in or a fault?
