Everytime I watch LCW's game, I noticed that his grip is different from most players, as well as mine. So can anybody tell me how he grips his racket and what other benefits will anybody get from that grip? Plus, can anyone give a picture of his gripping?
he wraps the grip upside down, so he doesn't have to use a finishing tape... I'm doing this on my own rackets, it's very handy... that, and he thickens the buttend...other than that it's very standard... maybe he means his gripping 'style'? maybe LCW grips his racket slightly more in a variations away from panhandle. (hard to explain)....but it's really nitpicking..
What do you do to the end of the grip on the butt-end? Wouldnt you need to use a finishing tape on the butt-end if the grip is wrapped on upside down?
Well, if you grip it upside down, you won't be needing any finishing tape, because at the bottom of your racket, you don't stick the overgrip to the undergrip as the sticky part is at the cone end now. This way you can stick it using the sticky part of the overgrip, which would result in the same as using finishing tape. Only you would feel a 'ridge' when you hold/grip it up high.
Yeah - I still don't get this - if you grip it upside down, the butt-end still has nothing sticking to the handle, right?
Exactly, nothing sticks to the but end. But because you wrap it up, it shouldn't be a problem. The grip just wraps itself, so no issue of accidentally unwrapping the grip. I usually just wrap it at the but end twice (the overgrip is long enough, so no problem) and you'll be 200% sure it won't get loose. The sticky side will be near the cone.
well, it shouldn't do. but i've had a few problems when the end of the tape near the butt end slips out from underneath the next turn. then it's a right damn job to put the end bit back in.
