. 2009 India Open: Day 5 (Semi-Finals) Saturday March 28 For match results as they are progressing live: click here For current time in India: click here The first 2 matches will be starting at 2:00pm, namely; Womens Singles: Beiwen ZHANG [SIN] -vs- Julia Pei Xian WONG [5] [MAS] , and Mens Doubles: Alvent Yulianto CHANDRA / Hendra Aprida GUNAWAN [INA] -vs- Hendri Kurniawan SAPUTRA / Hendra WIJAYA [SIN] At the Quarter-Finals yesterday, what a great achievement it was for Zhang Beiwen (unseeded) to defeat Lydia Cheah (seeded 8), and for Julia Wong (seeded 5) to defeat the Indian crowd's favourite, Saina Nehwal (seeded 2). Zhang Beiwen is in great form and so is Julia Wong. This match between them could be the 'Match of the Day'. Later today, all eyes will be on the unseeded Mens Singles player from China, Chen Long (World Rank #148). Chen Long caused 3 upsets before arriving at the Semi-Finals, namely; Round 1: Defeated Malaysian Lee Chong Wei (World Rank #1, seeded 1), 7-21, 21-16, 21-18 Round 3: Defeated Indian Anand Pawar (World Rank #47, seeded 16), 21-12, 21-12 Quarter-Finals: Defeated Malaysian Lee Tsuen Seng (World Rank # 21, seeded 8), 21-15, 21-8 Is it possible for Chen Long to make it to the Finals? chris-ccc .
If Chen Long beat Hafiz, which is very likely, it will be the third Malaysian to become his prey. Hope Hafiz could stop him to save some Msia's pride.......Go Hafiz!
Nope, Hafiz will definately fall. He played like a rookie yesterday. The only reason why he won was because Andre himself made too many mistake. The thing that I notice about Hafiz is that he do not take initiative to control the game, expecially around the net area. The move too freaking slow to the net and whenever he lift, it is done when the shuttle is very low, putting himself at a disadvantage. Yeah I know we all have our own particular style of playing but some basic things such as early pick up at the net are essentially important. Taufik himself is also somewhat a relax player but when he need to make tight net shot, he move really quick to the net. hafiz move like turtle. Chen Long to take this match........... easily. In my book, KBH did 10 times better than Hafiz yesterday despite his loss.
Ct 1: Hendra A. Gunawan/Alvent Yulianto Chandra vs Hendri Kurniawan Saputra/Hendra Wijaya -- AG/Alvent are in a good shape to reach their second Final of the year. Tommy Sugiarto vs Taufik Hidayat [2] -- ditto for Taufik. I think he will white-wash Tommy. Vita Marissa/Nadya Melati vs Jwalla Gutta/Shruti Kurian [3] -- a tough match for Vita/Nadya and the IND pair has an edge. Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah [1] vs Candra Wijaya/Joko Riyadi [5] -- ditto for Candra/Joko. Ct 2: Jo Novita/Endang Nursugianti vs Ma Jin/Wang Xiaoli -- tough for Jo/Endang to beat the CHN pair. Akhmad Tantowi/Richi Puspita Dili vs Flandy Limpele/Vita Marissa [3] -- I think Flandy/Vita will take this one and hopefully win the title in preparation of a tougher tourney at the BAC next mth.
i think vita marissa schedule going to change cause she play both women double and mixed double in 3rd match. how can it be? plz double confirm to it!!
Err, not really. Indian WD not that impressive, yet. And Gutta like Vita needs to play XD too ........

2009 India Open Mens Singles Final to be Hafiz Hashim -vs- Taufik Hidayat . Yes, I thought Chen Long's form has been excellent at this tournament. But, now that Hafiz Hashim has come this far, I would think that Hafiz is more determined to fight harder to get to the Finals. My Prediction: 2009 India Open Mens Singles Final to be Hafiz Hashim -vs- Taufik Hidayat .
