Many of people even never heard of the China National Games. But it is extremely important for badminton. First, China is the exclusive dominant nation in badminton, it sweeps Thomas Cup, Uber Cup, Sudirman cup,..., all the team events titles. and 4 out of 5 at individual events at World Championsip. China averagely takes 3 to 4 titles, sometimes sweep all 5 titles at open tournaments (like the all england this year). 2nd, many people think China cheated and fixed games at open tournaments, such as Lin Dan-Chen Jin at all England, swiss, even Olympics. But no China cheat or fix any game at national games. They have the real true fight there. 3rd, most people thought Olympics is the most important for players, including China players. Older players retire after Olympics, in fact, in China, most older players just leave national team after Olympics, but not retire as a career, just check Gao Ling, Wei Yili, Zhang Jie Yun, Yang Wei, they have left China national team, but they are still playing until the national games, usually players retire after the national games, such as Gong Ruina, Gong zhichao, ..., even this time, Xie Xinfang, Gao Ling, Wei Yili, Zhang Jie Yun, Yang Wei 4th, the national game is probably the most important for China players. China players are sponsored and supported by provinces, and the national game is the competition between province. Also after retirement, most players will get a job from provincial administrative branch, so they have to play relly hard for their boss and employer. Gong Zhicao, Gong Ruina, ... most retired players got some decent jobs from the province, now Xie XF, Gao Ling, Wei Yili, Zhang Jie Yun, Yang Wei are waiting for their positions after the 11th national game in Oct 11. Even Zheng Bo has to give up Ma Jin to pair with Tian Qin from his province order in this years China master super series. Zheng Bo has to team with Tian Q in the national game next month, this 9 star China master super series is just a warn up for the national games. I generate this thread for the above reason, let's pay a little bit more attention to the 11th China national games which held only once per 4 years. Here is the last time winners in 1995 Men's singles: Lin Dan bt Bao CL in the final, Chen Hong is the third Women's singles: Jiang Yanjiao (Gold), Gong Ruina(Silver), and Zhu Lin(bronze); Wang Chen (Hong Kong) was the 4th Men's doubles: Zhang Jun / Cai Yun bt Chen QQ / Fu HF Women's doubles: Gao Ling / Wei YL bt Zhang Jiewen/ Yang Wei Mixed doubles: Zheng Bo / Huang Shui bt Chen QQ/Zhang Jiewen For those people wondering whether Lin Dan is the best China player, instead of grabbing the title by fixing games, you have to watch this; for those people want to watch the last show of Xie XinFang, Gao Ling, Wei Yili, Zhang Jie Yun, Yang Wei, Zhu Lin, Zhao Tingting, and probably Bao Chun Lai, Xie Zhongbo, Zhang Yawen, you have to watch this...
thanks for this thread,,, i'm waiting so much .... i think suetyan will make it,,,,,, really appreciate it correction : i think it's not 9 star and it should be 2005 not 1995 btw,,,, this will provide us really great matches.... as a Chinese FAns i like to watch it,,, and i surely waiting for every news from this games keep posting ya...
thanks for the correction. I was trying to say: For all Chinese players, this 5 star China master super series is just a warm up exercise for the national games. The last China national games should be in 2005, not 1995. Actually I was there in Nanjing (the Southern Capital of China), on site watching the national game that time. Even the China president and community party general secretary Hu Jintao was there. Acoording to the athletes participations, China national games is one of the top 3 biggest games in the world (after Asian Games, and comparable to the Olympics). I missed that, am looking forward to reading your report this year.

Dear 2cents, Here is my report for the 2001 9th National Games. I just read it again. The report still brings back those memories of the arena. It was truly a great trip for me because it was only a few months beforehand that I first knew about the National games and of its importance to chinese people. Just one aspect we haven't mentioned is that the national games is only held every 4 years and it is for other sports as well. Not just badminton. Winners well get a hefty award of cash from their province. Yah. Agree on this. Hey, where is it held this year? I will not be going (unfortunately) Unless it is in HK (no chance of that happening). I can't even watch the East Asian Games. Many venues were sold out on the first day! In the end, I have only Wushu and Rugby sevens tickets.
It will be held in Qingdao. OMG, you gonna miss the East Asian Games?? Even you are a local.... how fast the tickets are being sold!!
I was in the queue the first morning! I heard the internet connection broke down - I guess the server couldn't handle the influx. I tried to get the diving tickets but they were sold out. Badminton I didn't even bother with.
In the interview after the match with Park at China master, Lin Dan was asked to commnet the match and the tournament, he said: I didn't prepared specifically for this Chang Zhou master cup. I can accept anywhere it finally ends up with. Potential oppornents like Lee CW, Du PY, Chen Yin and Gade are all very strong, I hope I try my best to show a better match to the Chang Zhou local people, I didn't set up any specific goal for this master cup, My goal this year is the national games later this year.
Probably Bao Chun Lai will retire after this event????? oohhh, he still young.... hope he will not be retired too fast.....
