As we all know by now, Lin Dan has just won the Men's Singles individual gold in the Asian Games 2010 held in Guangzhou. This last gold medal completes Lin Dan list of significant trophies, and have become the only person to have won all these titles: - Olympics - World Championship (3 times) - Asian Games - All England (4 times) - Thomas Cup (4 times) - Sudirman Cup (3 times) - Asian Games team (2 times) aside from the above, he has a list of dozens of other wins, including Opens in: - Japan - Hong Kong - China - Chinese Taipei - Korea - Macau - Thailand - German - French - Denmark - Swiss it is safe to say that Lin Dan is now the most accomplished Men's Singles badminton player in history. but what's next? i can think of a few potential goals, and what i think we should expect to see him do in the future. - Indonesia Open - Malaysia Open these two are somewhat significant Opens that LD has not won. the crowd are unfortunately hostile to him in those places so he may not want to head back there. if i were him, i would only do it if i really need a challenge in life. - Super Series Masters Final while not considered an important tournament by the CBA, it is still a significant and relatively new tournament. - Olympics 2012 no one has ever won 2 Olympics Men Singles gold medals. ever. it has been done in WD (Ge Fei / Gu Jun 2000/2004), XD (Zhang Jun / Gao Ling 2000/2004) and WS (Zhang Ning 2004/2008). doing so will ensure that no one will break his record for decades to come. this will not only be a personal agenda but also national agenda as Chinese NOC will want to secure as many medals as possible to maintain their number one position in Olympics Gold medal standing. - all Premier Super Series in one year Korea, England, Indonesia, Denmark, China all in one year. might as well since they are mandatory and since 2011 will be qualifying year for the London Olympics. lastly, apologies as i know this has been covered in threads elsewhere, however, i think this is significant enough a piece of badminton history to deserve its own thread.
A very good interview by LD, let's see how the next 2 years go for him.
And also he has not won any MD events yet. Other than Olympic 2012, he should try winning a MD super series also, maybe with BCL. If Liem Swie King can play doubles, why not him?
that's just a formality, i think. as a woman, i don't think XXF will say no. as a man, he just need to be man enough to go through the process. might be tough for some guys, and esp tough as a celebrity, but i believe he has enough courage to do so.
he already cemented his status as the greatest MS ever... with impressive collections of the best and major titles... so i dont think other titles is important or significant for him... i dont think 10 to 20 years to come, any challengers can go near him or exceed what LD achieved...so he doesnt need to prove anything anymore... he can take his own sweet time to choose which tournament he want to play or when his services is needed esp. in team events...
If Lin Dan manage to win in all of the remaining title that he has never emerged champion before, i think the next best thing he can also do is like what Arsenal did, that was to remain unbeaten for the whole season. To challenge himself more, remain unbeaten not even a single set. That will set a World Record for the longest unbeaten clean sheet. Go LD Go.
A very good interview indeed! In that press conference, one can glimpse his charisma and mental fortitude in the way he commanded the questions. (Which, imo, is unfortunately LCW's shortcoming.)
Congratulation to LIN DAN wish you a bright future.... keep the spirit to win for your Country... Jia You...
LD will marry XXF only after he retires from Badminton . Heard that LD will marry XXF only after he retires from Badminton. As a Badminton fan wishing to watch LD playing in more tournaments, I hope LD will not marry XXF soon. .
