The analogy doesn't work for singles. Top singles players generally use a long grip in all parts of the court.

There are also some situations in doubles where long grips are used at the net, and some where short grips are used towards the back of the short.

Yes, that's a general rule used for coaching newcomers to the game as it does relatively make the shot easier to execute.

However at the highest levels, all basic rules are broken to garner every little advantage on court as possible.

So where does LCW grip the racket? At the bottom or the middle?

Broadly speaking, yes; but this only applies for doubles, and even then it doesn't apply in every situation.

A lot of times you don't have enough time to change grips while moving from the front to back; especially in singles, because if you're being rushed to the front, you want to extend your reach to as far as possible, and not lose that extra 3-4 inches from moving your grip up. But each player has his/her own preferences; I tend to grip my racquet so low that my pinky finger is resting just above of the part of the grip which sticks out at the bottom, while most people hold it up an inch higher than that.

From what I can see it's pretty standard...

Maybe, just maybe he grips it a bit more in a variation away form panhandle...But that's really nitpicking..
    Looky here:

The first photo shows a shot somewhere from mid-court to 3/4 court. The second shot is hard to tell but the grip here is a bit shorter than the first shot, maybe a possible clue to its shorter distance. The third photo is not too clear although it would appear to be longer than the second photo.

I just wondering how players can change the grip vertically (near to / far from cone) while the game is on... How can they do it???
