For 17-Nov-2013 (Court No.1 & 4 from 10:00am to 12:00noon) in the Badminton hall.

Posting a reminder to our CCC CATS trainees.

On Sunday 17-Nov-2013, it's the City2Sea Run event.

There will be road closures for trainees driving in.

Trainees coming to MSAC by trams will not be affected.

Also note that there are Cut-off times for runners :

1. Last participant to enter Albert Park at Lakeside Drive and Fitzroy St (4km mark) - 9:15am.

2. Participants will be moved to the Lakeside Path between 7.5km-9.5km if they do not reach Aughtie Drive (7.5km mark) - 9:48am.

3. Last participant to exit Albert Park on to Fitzroy St (10km mark) - 10:30am.

Sunday CCC CATS at MSAC on 17-Nov-2013 (A Short Report)

Here is a short report for our Sunday CCC CATS at MSAC on 17-Nov-2013.

We thank trainees for removing themselves from our 'Booking List' when unable to attend; therefore opening up vacancies for new trainees wishing to join us.

Reminder :
If you are unable to attend, kindly remove your name ASAP so that others can replace you, otherwise you will be fined. Why? Because there could other CCCers wishing to attend (checking to book in - up to the last hours), but finding themselves missing out after we have FULL HOUSE. And MSAC charges the court fees if we cancel our courts within 24 hours before our session starts.

At this session, we worked on 'Doubles' Tactics and Positions'.

Some points to remember :

* The 'FAB' position is the attacking position. It is commonly used as the traditional 'Mixed Doubles' position.

* The 'SQUARE' position is the defending position. The front player needs to retreat to get more time to see the coming smash.

* For the 'FAB' position :
1. Know your bases.
2. Front player guards the 'FC'.
3. Back player guards the 'MC' and 'BTL'.
4. When the shuttlecock is high up between the 2 players, it is better for the player moving forward to hit it.
5. In order to remain at this position, do not play any 'Clears' (whether from your underarm or from your overhead).

* For the 'SQUARE' position :
1. Know your bases.
2. Decide before the game, who will guard the 'FT'.
3. Decide before the game, who will guard the 'BT'.
4. When the shuttlecock is high up between the 2 players, it is better for the player with the forehand stroke to hit it.
5. Which side for players to square? The front player decides.

* etc, etc, ......

If trainees are still not understanding the lesson taught, please ask me questions next session (to give you info/demo that you require).

Comments on our 5 attending trainees:
* Chong-S should stay at the front to guard the 'FC'. Her better shots are her 'Netplay'.
* Timothy-T can play at the front or at the back. He is quick at the front and has power to smash from the back.
* Janice-S needs more training for her softer shots (the 'Low Service' and the 'Netplay').
* Mario-P needs more training for his power shots (the 'Overhead Clear' and the 'Smash').
* Jing-L, being new, has much to learn. It's good that she is learning rather fast.

Here is a short report for our Sunday CCC CATS at MSAC on 24-Nov-2013.

At this session, we worked on the 'Dab'.

Some points to remember :
* Target area is the 'GAP'.
* Effective power required is '100%' (as compared to the lesser power required for an effective 'Smash').
* When 'Dabbing', expect a 'Dab' return.
* The 'Dab' is mainly used in Doubles; not as often in Singles.
* The 'Dab' is to beat your opponent by giving him/her less time to reply.
* etc, etc, ......

If trainees are still not understanding the lesson taught, please ask me questions next session (to give you info/demo that you require).

Comments on our 3 attending trainees:
* Chong-S needs to return her racket-head quickly to 'GAP height' after 'Dabbing'. Often, she is not ready for the 'Dab' return.
* Mario-P needs more power in his 'Dab'. More wrist-work training is required.
* Timothy-T's forward 'Dab' is excellent now. It's time to work on the cross-court 'Dab'.
