I seem to remember there being some talk/rumour of Victor looking at re-designing the VS850 string to sort out the tension loss problem. Is there any news on this?
Looks like the packet was resigned again before July 2012 as this one says 'medium feeling' which I think is new. I'll double check that previous screenshot.
Well, I think I can say that the latest batch hasn't solved the problem - 9.5% down after the first session. But ye gods, you forget how good the feel of this stuff is.
^ Fortunately for other non high tension users like me, ZM62 has better feel, repulsion, and tension retention, if strung at 24-25 lbs or less so it'll last.
I just bought a reel... that's how good my first session back on the horse was. As luck/unluck would have it, I accidentally turned prestretch off when I strung my Panda with it the other day, so I can now to a PS/no PS comparison. I hope PS helps... nearly 10% down after the first session will have be into 35 lb before long.
You can't escape that 850 is such a lively string and plays so beautifully. I've been testing 880 and really like this string too, although it's a different feel to 850. A touch harder I would say but strings well. I feel this string enjoys high tension and therefore at 26lbs its not playing at its best yet. Paul www.badminton-coach.co.uk
Victor called the old NS880 "hard feeling"... and I about fell off my chair laughing at how wrong that was. However, they've got it bang on with the new one - it's close to BG80, in fact.
VS850. Works very well with MXJJS btw but once the tension loss kicks in it's pants. Nothing beats the feel of fresh VS850 imo. If they sorted out the tension loss and kept all the other characteristics intact I probably wouldn't need to look at another string again.
just knocked off the second pound after a quick singles match on plastics. feels OK but nothing special so far. tension is still a tad too high I think. control is nice.
Leave the 850 till last, or you'll spoil your dinner. I got all those from Paul... is he two-timing me?
I have BG80P on my BSLYD and actually I like it very much. It's a nice string but again loses tension easily but not as quickly as VS850. In terms of tension, it's a bit of trial and error, but I tend to increase the tension from my preferred tension by about 2lb if using VS850 and I always prestretch. My ideal tension is about 29lb, so I've strung one of my MXJJSs at 31lb with VS850. Some may say that this is not enough, as it has been known to drop a lot more than this. But I never let it drop that much before restringing so it's ok.
so far this is holding tension better than any other restring! still at 1090hz from 1150 initially on Sunday. I'll add these results to frequency thread when I have more. strung a tad too tight too. elbow is singing a bit but I was trying too hard to get power and mishitting. my net control is at an all time best though I'm glad I've got another packet.
