VS850 is quite similar to BG80P... both loses tension at about the around the rate, BG80P probably a tad better. BG80P is more powerful imo but fresh VS850 has far better feel.

that was a funny joke, i actually laughed out loud at work :(

i guess my tension is probably around 22-23lbs then since i string it at 24x25. i find myself loving the feel of 24x25 because it's crisp, but i don't have as much power. but at the same time i find myself loving the power/control ratio after the string had "settled" and i do notice the big difference of before and after the string had "settled". so it's a bit more difficult to be consistent when i'm constantly trying to adjust my swings and strokes according to the tension of the racket. :(

Just tested VS-850 at 30LBS 10% prestretch, and you guessed it, this is my new go-to string. It is just perfect for my control and touch game. BEST STRING EVER :D

This is only the beginning... I've gone from 27 to 33 with this stuff, with no end in sight.

Try being ten years older than the next oldest regular at your club...

had to quote this again because when i come back to the last page and this is the first post i still crack up even when i know i've read it a few times! good job sir!

i think even tho i can't get much power at 24lbs, a freshly strung VS850 at 24lbs on most of my rackets feel very very crisp, the response is very quick and defined, which i am sorta addicted to :(

hmmm....interesting. i know that control will increase a lot from 24 to 27 and that my power will decrease dramatically. but i wonder, for my game, will i see the difference from 27 to 33? i guess one thing i would want to know before hand is because i'm afraid of stringing a racket at that high tension :( and tho it's never happened before or never even heard of before, but somehow i'm afraid that if the string snap while i'm stringing it would whip me in the face or something.

Well, I finally managed to get a like-for-like test of the new VS850 against the old... and, to be honest, I prefer the old. More power, brighter sound.

    There's a NEW VS850 out?!?!

That's news to me, I heard the rumour but never thought it would be out so soon if at all.

So what do they claim to have changed? Tension hold?

Well... the packet has changed. It may be the placebo (or nocebo) effect, but I think they are different.

    YMMV.

well i believe you since the packaging (at least) is still the older one and not the newer. i'll be able to get some with newer packaging in March then i'll probably do a side by side test maybe :)

I haven't noticed any difference between the two strings and I have packets of both. Mark must be registering on the subtle scale because that's where I am weakest.

I am also testing the other Victor strings at the moment. I like NS880, not as keen on VS 800 so moved on to 650 which is pretty bright .66 gauge, reminding me of Ultimax. Now testing760.

I think I need more test racquets :)

Do you just put it on, try it and then cut them to try another?
