I having problem in steeping my smash when doing full body smash.. My smash usually flat and even flatter when i doing jump smash.. Any BC members knows why and how to overcome this..
i tried to use the wrist more but my smash speed decrease though the angle becomes steeper.. Am i doing something wrong ???
Probably timing issue - try to consciously tell yourself to contact the bird more in front of you (and higher). The racket face angle would naturally give you a steeper smash.
owh..i see..now i know..i usually contact the bird above my head...maybe that's the problem..need to adjust my timing and position then..
btw if u notice in coach chen wei hua video... u can spot then young chinese lady singles player, wang xin. the video..is made ages ago...but still relevant
this deosnt work for everyone depending on how they smash, but try following through the whole way with your arm swing motion.
That was a correct decision.Try to move behind shuttle as fast as possible, you will have your smash steeper
My advice is to get a coach , and practice the shot until you are happy with it. None of us here can help you without seeing you in action and standing right beside you. It would be helpful if the members on here could make a video to demonstrate the technique , otherwise it is just words
Try getting further behind the shuttle, and leaving the "zip" phase of the swing till later (but getting your feet behind the shot is more important).
What I notice from many self taught players that learnt with a long grip tend to be somewhat panhandle. The problem with panhandle is that you don't get to learn the proper use of the forearm. The other thing with using a correct grip is that you learn to manipulate the racket face angle and can adjust depending on the contact point with the shuttle.
it's your timing When you clear you usually want to try to hit it at a 11 o'clock position. If you want a more steeper smash, you have to imagine hitting it at a 10 o'clock position. Basically, just change your hitting angle
Point of contact between the shuttlecock n racket face should at least be 11 o'clock position, viewing sideway. For high clear could be at 12 o'clock or even 1 o'clock (if you are a bit late in yr footwork/reaction). You have to use yr wrist for really steep smashes. Watch Lin Dan or Fu Hai Feng's slow motion.
grip position of the body not enough wrist pronation timing arm extension (reaching the highest point) mishitting footwork (not getting behind the bird) all these and more can be the cause as mentioned by other bc-ers, best bet is to get a coach to correct you or post a video and hope for the best
