There is an awesome instructional clip up on the Badminton Players Federation website with Peter Rasmussen teaching how to do a jump smash. This guy had one of the best ever back in the day. Check it out.

    wow thats awesome...

Unless I'm mistaken though, he doesn't seem to be jumping very high compared to other professional players (may just seem this way due to his large stature)

I don't know about "awesome" but it's yet another perspective. Agree though, he's not jumping very high but height is not always necessary for a successful jump smash. :D

Wow~! If you notice when, he smashes down on the line consistently~! Such great consistency and accuracy~! I find it hard to follow his method and using my body to guide the shuttle, I reckon its more of the wrist for me.

Just took a quick peek & it's a pretty entertaining clip..

..i thought his footwork is very sound as well..
..sorry but i was giggling a bit towards the end of the video, not because of his technique or sort but because he was huffing & puffing whilst at the same time trying to talk(basically thruout the clip after he does those jumpsmashes); his way of talking also reminds me a bit of Mr. Arnold Schwarzenegger..hehe:p :D ;)

he looks very uncomfortable doing the video.

he also looks like he's getting quite high... he just doesn't bring up his feet like many players, so it doesn't appear his vertical is as large.

no, he really doesn't get as high as fu, sigit and the other asians...
btu then, he's at least 85kgs, and not that short...

great video, great body control...especially if you see the young kids at my club 'jumpsmashing' while flapping like a fish on dry land:p

I can't see a difference in the jump height...
Perhaps Peter jumps a little higher (on the picture, on the video it doesn't look as high...)

I think it's just the timing of the photos...
If you get the picture at exact the moment when the knees have an 90° angles (?), then it look twice as high compared to strechted knees...

I also think Cai perhaps jumps half of the net high... His knees are at one level with the head of Fu (and Fu is sitting on the floor)

    EDIT:
Are there other instructional videos from Peter Rasmussen?
I can read on the page: "Peter Rasmussen Instructional SERIES!!!"

There will be at least one more video going up next week, depending on the response more may be done soon.

In terms of Peter's jump height, I can tell you he has some pretty good hops, but he is also a fair bit bigger than guys like Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan (he is a pretty muscular guy), so it's hard to get as high as they do. Also, Peter is a bit taller than they are, so he doesn't need to get as high, but his technique is quite good. If you watch his accuracy you'll see that he is hitting the line on a few of his smashes.

Look forward to some footwork help from Peter soon!

come on man.. he is showing us the proper way to jumpsmash, he didn't emphasise on how high you must jump, he is more concern at letting audience know the proper technique. Furthermore this is only a demonstration so it is unecessary to jump that high, if he had to leap so high continuously he probably cant even explain stuff because he would be breathing too heavily!;)

I'm sorry if I sounded pessimistic. It's a great video, and I learned a bit as well (the targetting, and leg-flick)
    I do a larry-bird jump myself, I wouldn't dare critisising him;)
I was just commenting on the picture, the angle is a bit deceiving:eek:

This is great! Peter Rasmussen is my favorite badminton player! After a slight hiatus on my part from badmintoncentral I find this gem. Great!

hang on, I don't really get the timing of the knee straightening... Are you supposed to start straightening your knees before your body and arm rotation, or start straightening your knees and rotate your body and swing your arm in unison?
