His appearance will generate alot of interest from both old and new generation players. Why play again, ZJH didn't get rich from his sport like Michael Jordan did. Today's winnings and sponsorships are alot more richer than those olden days. If ZJH has a willing mind, i say, why not?
Bros: where is the link that says Zhao jian hua is playing for singapore national team , please provide evidence..... he is too old to play anymore.
as much as i would like to see him play again, neither do i wanna see him lose. His age, his physical fitness & injuries.
I think it would have been reasonable to also to do a comparison of him to himself in his worse form while in international badminton. It would make sense to see the other extreme, and if he still beat most of the top modern players in those simulations, he is just spectacular.
This is a great move by SBA. If ZJH can play until 46, it means that we have extended the playing life of our players to 46 from the current 28-30. Now, that means we effectively double/tripple our talent pool. Of course ZJH is an exceptional talent and we cannot be sure we can repeat his success on our own local players. Too bad he is born 1 year too early or he would have his OG medal from 2012 guaranteed. I just hope SBA will stick to its programme...
To all those naysayer and doubter, I believe it's as much a personal choice of ZJH as well as a strategic move by SBA. Yes, the simulation has taken into account factors of aging etc and from my personal observation of watching many many ZJH videos/matches I think he matches, if not exceed, the top players today. LHI will be a problem because he likes and has the ability to hyper-extend rallies so ZJH's current stamina might not keep up. Playing LHI is also so boring that ZJH might lose concentration and fall asleep. All other players can only dream about dragging rallies with ZJH but will all subcomb to ZJH's deceptive play and accuracy. Whether the programme will be successful remains to be tested on real courts where emotion and tactical changes comes into play. I certainly hope ZJH still has it as it is shown by the simulations but as the saying goes, "The answer will only be revealed tomorrow!". We will have to wait and see the real thing in action.
Wow, here's another coming out of the woodwork See post#21 in this thread: http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1135349
it is never too old to play, it's up to him how much he want to push himself. In canada, Mike Beres, our national MS, still winning at 34-35? year old. He also play MD and XD too. He is still our #2 right now and he is 36. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oK0ULiQL0F4 mike beres wins PanAm title after beating kevin cordon. Kevin played in the 08 OG to round 2 against BCL
April Fools joke? Folks, From the date of the publication in the first post. I would say this is probably April Fools joke.
he achieved all his results as a part time player. To be in top ranking, u have to compete in internatinal events to get decent ranking points. In canada, gov't funding is almost non-existent, it discourage them to go travel all over. Our players have to self fund their badminton activity, that is why our nationals go play close to home, US and central america. If he train fulltime and has rich parents,i'm sure he would go far
u miss one major difference, ZJH doesn't drink, do drugs, and party(womenizing) his body like Maradona. ZJH continued some training and coaching to stay in form. If he is to be in SBA, i'm sure he will go through some additional fitness training. His fitness is alot better than Maradona that i'm sure of. http://wwwc.aftonbladet.se/sport/0502/18/SPORT-18s25-maradona-386_368.jpg
By the way (this is seriously off-topic): Canada's Mike Beres has beaten Guatemala's Kevin Cordon. Cordon nearly beat Bao Chunlai at the 2008 Beijing Games. So, who should be ranked higher? Bao or Beres?
