Team Korea is currently having warmups training in Manila before proceeding to Singapore for the Open.
Must use cane and whip them lah. Once complacency sets in it'll take years to rebuild. I notice the they are heavy also. A good excuse not to retain the title perhaps. ZAKRY Latif was supposed to hit the gym after last week's Pahang Open but fitness has taken a back seat as he is busy representing the Negri Sembilan Foundation in the ongoing Inter-Foundation Games in Kuantan. This has got national doubles coach Rexy Mainaky worried as he feels Zakry will not have enough time to shape up for the Indonesia Open on June 16-21. Zakry and partner Tazary Fairuzizuan, the World No 5 pair, are hoping to retain their Indonesia Open title in Jakarta. "I wanted Zakry to work on his fitness after the Pahang Open. However, I can't do anything about it but wait for his return from Kuantan on Friday," said Rexy yesterday. "I couldn't do much but to let him play in the Games as he has commitments with the Negri Foundation. I want him to train harder when he returns." Rexy has not been happy with Zakry's form since the All England and Swiss Open in March. The pair's slump started when they lost to South Korea's Han Sang Hoon-Hwang Ji Man in the quarter-finals of the All England, and a week later, were shown the exit in the first round of the Swiss Open by Japan's Shuichi Sakamoto-Shintaro Ikeda. Those defeats prompted Rexy to issue an ultimatum to the pair to either shape up or risk being dropped from future tournaments. The rumour is that Zakry has not been attending fitness training which forced the BA of Malaysia (BAM), two weeks ago, to drop the duo from defending their Singapore Open title next week. Zakry-Fairuzizuan, however, answered their critics with a near-perfect performance to bag last week's Pahang Open doubles title. "I initially did not name them for Singapore because of their form and fitness. Though they have improved slightly, it's still not good enough," Rexy added. The squad leave for Singapore on Saturday.

Indoneisa's Players urged to up game in Singapore The Jakarta Post Fri, 06/05/2009 Agnes Winarti Indonesia's female badminton players are shouldering high expectations of improving their performance from last year when they take part in this year's Singaporean Open, starting next Tuesday. Women's doubles pairs Shendy Puspa Irawati/Meiliana Jauhari and Greysia Polii/Nitya Krishinda had to be content with a quarterfinal finish in last year's event. Coach Aryono Miranat blamed the poor performance on the players' lack of international experience. "I have to admit our senior women's doubles players have limited tournament experience, so their game hasn't matured yet," he told The Jakarta Post on Thursday. "The more tournaments a shuttler joins, the more mature their performance will be. That is what our women's doubles players lack; but hopefully they can improve in the Singapore Open." Maturity in playing entails their ability to create strategies when countering opponents; scoring points in critical situations, as well as minimizing errors, said Aryono. He said these were the improvements he expected of his two pairs. World No. 7 Shendy/Meiliana and world No. 19 Greysia/Nitya will part of the Indonesian contingent heading to Singapore and looking to recover from their failure in last month's Sudirman Cup. "Regardless of the tough target, we must go for it," Aryono said. Indonesia also has an outside chance in the women's singles, with coach Marleve Mainaky expecting at least a semifinal finish for Adriyanti Firdasari. Mixed doubles coach Ri chard Mainaky is making the tournament, which runs from June 9 to 14, as a tryout for the country's top-ranked mixed doubles pair Nova Widianto and Liliyana Natsir. The world No. 1 pair is focusing on the defense of the world championship in India on Aug. 10-16. "The Singapore Open and the Indonesian Open *from June 14-21* will be testing grounds for them to create a whole new playing pattern," Richard said recently. He added if the Beijing Olympic Games silver medalists did not do well before the World Championship, they might not continue as a pair in the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China. The mixed doubles second-stringers Devin Lahardi/Lita Nurlita, champions in last year's Taiwan Open Gold Grand Prix, will be the second mixed pair in Singapore. Indonesia will also send Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan, Rian Sukmawan/Yonatan Suryatama and Bona Septano/Muhammad Ahsan in the men's doubles; and last year's finalist Simon Santoso and Sony Dwi Kuncoro in the men's singles.
