There is a saying 'strike whilst the iron is hot'. Zymax strings are better than the best of the Yonex strings but it has a lower marketing presence and is not yet an established brand. Brand sells and will always 'punch above its weight'. However, enlightened people with a critical mind are not that easily fooled and will never buy something that is not worth its price, except in business. Unlike the public, readers here know how underrated Zymax strings are and seem to rate it highly. Opportunists like to jump on this bandwagon and try to make it look better-by coming out with new colors that are not in the official line. Fakers move fast-strike whilst the iron is hot.
It is fake but there is nothing to stop you from buying a container load. Even the cover is fake but I won't reveal the tell-tale signs lest the fakers come out with a more perfect copy.
Then please enlighten the community. No one is trying to dispute your claim of being in contact with someone of authority on such matters. No one likes to get cheated by a counterfeit and if one could stop it now, why not? But if it truly is a fake then the makers must have some seriously good reach as these 2 disputed colors of blue and black have popped up on different continents now.
Someone has earlier checked with Ashaway and you can find the answer above. Now, Ashaway is the manufacturer and why don't you get it through your head that what they say is the real McCoy and the others are shameless fakes? Do I need to say more?
Oh I don't doubt what the manufacturer says. I'm simply calling you out on identifying in what way it's fake.
Goode sports the official UK distributor has confirmed that the black is a legit product and not a fake. I'm happy with that.
Actually you can contact Steve Crandall at sale@ashawayusa.com and check with him. Last July I have had some exchanges of email with Steve re their new 2nd generation Zymax strings and my preference for the first generation platinum Zymax ones. He in fact did reveal that the new generation ones are different from the first generation and also more durable, but did say that the platinum ones would continue to be made available for the Far East only following the new generation series. But I seem now to have some difficulty in getting the platinum ones now other than ZM62. He was planning to visit HK with their Far East regional distributor and suggested we meet but I could not make it.
As I said earlier giving you the clues will make the fakers smarter. However, just post a good and sharp photo of the string in the packet and I will let you know. But you can fool me by putting in a fake string into a legitimate packet. I can only tell from the imperfections on the packet.
Here is a sure way to check if your Zymax strings are genuine or fake. The 2nd gen. Zymax strings have a unique odor/smell, not very endearing, and definitely very different from any other string brand. The first generation Zymax has a less distinct and more pleasant smell/odor. If you are an experienced stringer you can easily separate the genuine ones and the fakes as well as the 1st gen from the 2nd gen.
Re smell, yes I know what you mean... quite pungent... smells like formaldehyde... I know because I used to work with preserved cadavers.
The question still remains as to why reputable stores are selling these so called counterfeit strings then? I doubt they are fake and smell can fade away after some time...
I spoke to the UK distributor earlier who confirmed the black is real, not sure that helps with the blue though.
Anyway I opened my pack of blue ZM65 to sniff them and then opened a pack of yellow and red ZM65 as well as a pack of red ZM62 and they all smell like they came out of the same ass!
