I agree with you for once. LD lost to Boonsak; BAO lost to LCW; XXF lost to MEw Choo, and more losses are in stall. China's domination is dwindling as I see it. And if Sony wins the final, it will prove the point.
Twobeer was being pedantic. I was being realistic. Just remembered that Xia Xuanze won the edition when WCH was runners up.
twobeer was being factual. It's not exactly uncommon to have a medal count at the end of tournaments no matter what sport or event.
It's probably the attitude of other badminton nations of being content to finish second or third to China that is causing the current situation. The likes of Lin Dan and most especially Li Yongbo won't be happy to finish second, whilst it's considered a great achievement by Malaysia or Denmark to reach the finals. As mentioned before in here, things will change eventually, just not at this particular moment, as quality begin to even out elsewhere with the export of expertise; I was happy with Rexy's frankness when it comes to evaluating and handling his charges instead of wrapping them in cotton wool, and we heard about Hadinata telling of Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan that their goals should always be about being beating the best to become champions. Funny enough, here's a summary of something I just read from a book about Asia that could be applied somewhat to the same circumstances. It was an old man talking about the dying business that he ran traditionally which were being displaced by giant markets and corporations; a commentary about the changes that will have to take place in Japan to restart their ailing economy:
Absolutely agree here.while new players are emeging from other natons.there are n't really any new players emerging who are gold medal prospects.Forget about whether they win or lose in the final.but atleast new players who give world no.1's ...aka Chinese a run for their money.this is not happening.
I wouldn't call indonesia a powerhouse that dominates. This is only one tournament, and I want to see in the future - remember, INA didn't win anything at their home in IO07 and their first SS title was in CM late into the year. I would wait for the next round of SS to confirm their powerhouse status or to dispel it as a sudden flash of brilliance that dulls away.
INA very joyful! Yeah, I know INA is not doing well in the Superseries this year. We do not claim we dominate, but we are doing better than many other nations this week... In the biggest BWF tournaments such as Sudirman Cup 2007 and World Championship 2007, INA did better than most countries, except for China.... China still dominates, but we are not too far behind... Once we get our MS an WS stars to shine more, we'll be in a better place... [ahem, right now some talents are in our backyard, but needs a loottt of polishing] Oh, you cannot kill INA's joy today and tomorrow... Our newspapers this morning was already glad that Sony made it to the finals and we have 3 representatives in the finals. I imagine tomorrow morning's edition will be full of badminton as the headline...
I hate to say it but INA has done marvellously when it counts. I am giving credit to where credit is due. Well done INA players.
Agree with X_Ball, Indonesian squad have outdone themselves in this tournament, when the stakes are highest. Not even the uncharacteristic defeat of TH can derail their ambition, up steps other players to mount a challenge. Indeed I often wonder how Malaysian players can learn how Indonesian players approach the game when it matters most. Just look at how Flandy/Vita fought like mad before succumbing to GL/ZB. There can be no complaints when you fight with such passion .......
I have no explanations on why our INA players actually did well when it counts... Maybe Heaven gives us extra hope... Our country needs something to celebrate together...
sigh... malaysian players just crumble at important events... not like last time, we used to fight fight fight in Thomas Cup... fight like Foo Kok Keong (from my alma matter)... play then vomit then play then vomit then play then vomit... now our new breed of players cannot even wrap up a match point...
