for the first time ever, Aaron/Soh able to defeat the Minions in this very Tokyo Olympics 2020 (2021)... Congratulations for Aaron/Soh, now go for one way ticket to win a medal (Gold, Silver or Bronze whatever)...
Well done in the upset. Minions was shaken by Taiwan pair. Hence they looks vulnerable. Bad timing for them. No.more OG gold for.minions. Even for next OG. I bet all the other pairs are happy now. Just like mens singles where momota is out. Lets see if Malaysia boys will get another crack at Li.and Liu. Twin towers.
Congratulations to Aaron Chia Teng Fong/Soh Wooi Yik for winning a Bronze Medal in Tokyo Olympic Game...
They could have gone to the final had they employed the right game plan against the Twin Towers. The Twin Towers are not that formidable. If they were able to beat Kevin/Markus, they can beat other pairs too.
they're on the right track. just hope bam doesn't suck the wind out of them like they do to everyone else.
Lets hope they can win some tournaments from now on. Maybe 1 or 2 big ones to get credibility if possible. This og draw system does favours the underdogs with group system. A jinx for all world no 1 so far. Credit to limpele. He did very well in india and now in malaysia. I bet indonesians wants to wallop him for beating indonesia 2 top pairs or get him back to pbsi. Also. Not many gives the coach some credit. You notice? Im a coach. This is so sad. Wakaka.

I'm posting from my phone, its hard to copy & paste. The Star articles need subscription before able to read full article. Basically, the coach, Flandy says Aaron/Soh still have long way more to go to be on par with the top MD pairs(from various articles).
Highlights of Bronze medal match. Commentary in malay. Lower the volume at the end cos the commentator will be shouting after the win Medal ceremony. Interview with Aaron Chia day after Bronze match. Live crossover from Japan, like Zoom, FB live. The hosts are in Msia. Q: You always have calm expression in court. How you achieve that? How do you feel inside? Aaron said actually he feel nervous, it just doesnt show on his face. He needed to calm himself first & then calm Soh down. Cannot let opponent see he's nervous, cannot let partner see he's nervous. Cos he needs to lead Soh. Q : What you communicate with Wooi Yik during on court? I see you guys doing high fives, etc. Be brave, dont think a lot. Fight for every ball( yes, Aaron said ball ). Thank you wishes to his parents, wife, family, BAM, etc.
Interview with Soh Wooi Yik, day after Bronze medal match. They are Not siting in the same room. Soh in Japan, the hosts in Msia. Q : How do you feel after the last point(match point) ? Very touched. The burden & pressure lifted. All the training, cannot come out, feel very proud to win medal for Msia Q : During the 2nd set when you & Aaron were behind, can see your face look nervous, maybe worried but you still fight. How did you feel at this point in the 2nd set? Setiawan/Ahsan are very experienced, they can get points fast. We are ready to face this difficulty. We feel pressure at 2nd set cos we need to win it. What's important I think is we trust ourselves. We communicate, Aaron motivate & give me a lot of confidence. I was able to make it happen in my front court play. Q : You switched from single to doubles. Can you share your experience training for MS under Roslin Hashim? (Roslin sometimes commentates for badminton at Astro) Coach Roslin is an experienced coach. He coach when we were Form 1(13 yrs old). He gave is a lot of advise when we were junior which help us to be more matured when we reach senior level. Q : How do you feel after beating the WR#1 ? It was unexpected. We never beat Kevin/Gideon in 7 times meeting. Could see Kevin/Gideon were very pressure. We took the good advantage, we played more confident. We learnt from this Olympics to play with open heart, more confident, dont be pressured. Then our game can come out. Q : How did you feel after losing the semifinals against the China MD? At first we were sad, we were quiet on the way back to Games Village. Then we discuss, cannot give up, still have last match. We decided to treat it like a gold medal match. This medal is motivation for all those who have helped us in our career. The next day we got up, start a fresh day, start with our plan, motivate among ourselves. Q : How do you feel during the medal ceremony? Very happy, when see Msia flag up there, feel like want to cry.
Happy to see them win a medal. I hope this tournament give them some experience and lots of lessons to take away. Their flaws are obvious during the semis against the chinese. I am sure they will continue to get medals for Malaysia in tournaments to come.
Interview with 8FM, a chinese language radio station Q : Which match was most difficult? Soh : Bronze medal match. Mentality important,if we are not focused for short while then its gone. Q : How were you able to catch up in 2nd set despite trailing behind ? Aaron : At the time our attitude was fight point by point till the end. Fight until the end, no regrets. We encourage each other. Have a dont give up attitude. Q :Netizens saying this bronze medal is precious because you beat WR#1 & #2 to win. Both of you happy about this? Aaron : Yes, because the WR#1 we never beat them before. The WR#2 we only beat them once before this. But lost 5 to 6X to WR#2. This 2 wins are a motivation to us Q : Is height important in doubles? Because the China MD pair is tall Aaron : In doubles height not that important. In singles height is more important cos taller easier to cover the court. We analyse opponent strengths & weakness, not compare the height Q : Before serving, there's a signal given no 1,2,3. Can you give an idea what it means ? Is the signal standardized worldwide? Soh : No 1 could mean serve towards the center, no 2 serve towards the side. Aaron : Different countries have different meaning for 1,2,3. We dont use signal talk to each other. We dont want people to analyse & know what signal we use so we decided to use spoken way instead Q : Soh, why did you switch from singles to doubles ? Cos I heard you were better than Lee ZJ in singles. At the time, its either me or Lee ZJ no 1 in singles among our group. Then coach Morten(Frost) came to talk to me & said I have talent in doubles. At the time my results in MD was better than MS. So I decided to switch, coach Morten partner me with Aaron. Q : What do you admire abt each other ? Soh : His self confidence & boldness. He dare to do. On court, this is important, if have little bit of doubt will effect Aaron : He's tall. ( Both laugh) He's not fussy, easy to discuss Q : Soh, you shared on social media you almost quit badminton when you were 18. Because you were not selected for national team. Soh : At the time, it was probation. During this probation, my leg got injured quite seriously. I had to rest 4 to 5 months. So, end of probation, I did not make the senior team. I was thinking my leg already injured, might as well further study instead. I already signed up for college, then an uncle Looi called & told me "Give yourself a chance. Play another 3 months, if no results, you go further studies"(Uncle Looi could be Looi Academy) In that 3 months he sent me to tournaments, I had some good results. After that, I entered national team & met Aaron Q : What do you want to say to Uncle Looi for persuading you not to quit & helping you? Soh : He is like my foster father. I am very grateful to him that he made me realise how important badminton is in my life. Q : What advise both of you have for those who wants to become athlete? Aaron : Have a goal, have persistence to achieve the goal Soh : Think for oneself, not be influenced by what others say. Be sure of the path that want to go. Endure a bit if people critize, coach scold. Q : Come back Msia, what food you think of most ? We'll send it over (Sounds like food request during 14 day quarantine after returning to Msia) Both : Nasi lemak Aaron : Every morning nasi lemak also can. Fat a bit but ok, once a while Soh : Fried kuey teow & banana Q : After quarantine what plans you have? Aaron : Just rest then prepare for Thomas Cup & Sudirman Cup (My chinese isnt very good. Pls correct the translation if you find errors)
Yes, Limpele is correct. Long way to go. Need to show some winnings before more pressure. Even tbh said in his fb that everyone gets a chance to win in og if they participate.
