Was watching a match of the Minions and noticed Kevin do this serve return which gives like a topspin affect so the shuttle rapidly goes down towards the ground. Was trying to learn how to do it anyone know physics or a tutorial so I can learn how to do it? There was no evidence of anyone doing it online Here it is 4:09 That's where he does it and he has done it in other matches before
Keep in mind the serve was quite high as shown in this picture. Against a lower well executed serve you would have to take it extremely early to get a result anything close to what kevin got here. If you try to top spin/brush shot against a proper serve, you’ll likely hit the net. You’ll probably get a lift out of it though, which is a win.
If the opponent does that kind of serve return, who is responsible for taking it? Front or back court player? I'm thinking back court but it seems quite far unless you are world class and can stand pretty far to the front.
It's the back court player's responsibility according to my coach. Look at where Kamura is standing here. That's because moving to the back is easier than reaching these spots (more time). In this case it probably was not possible for Kamura because of how high/bad Sonoda's serve was.
I use this kind of top-spin sliced return in my repertoire of shots. I also hit the shuttlecock with an excessive' wave' motion to give it sharply dipping top-spin when hitting a forehand drive, akin to a tennis shot.
As the others have said - it's a shot played with topspin. The way to play it is to point your strings in the direction you want to hit the shuttle, and then move the racket from a little bit below the height of the shuttle, to a little bit above the height of the shuttle, and you need to gently push forwards towards the shuttle as you hit it with this kind of "brushing" motion. It is commonly taught as a brushed net kill.
The shot being successful has more to do with the fact that Kamura was surprised by it. Look at how close his racket was to where the shuttle landed. He could have gotten the shot.
