NATIONAL singles coach Rashid Sidek wants the doping saga to end soon so that World No 1 Lee Chong Wei can move on with his life.

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) on Tuesday confirmed that Chong Wei tested positive for the banned substance dexamethasone at the World Championships in Copenhagen and is now provisionally suspended from competing in any tournament till the BWF’s doping panel hearing which will be held in due time.

Chong Wei, 32, who has not trained with the national squad for nearly a month, resumed light training yesterday and was seen sparring with national No 3 Liew Daren.

“I feel sorry for him (Chong Wei) because badminton is part of his life, and prior to this issue, he had been training almost everyday and now you expect him to just stop?.

“I am sure he feels empty, and that is why he resumed training with us today (yesterday). Badminton is the only thing that can keep him happy at the moment. I know how depressed he has been since this whole doping case was made public.

“I don’t know much about BWF’s procedures but I hope that the hearing will be soon so that Chong Wei will at least know his fate. Will he be able to play or not after this? Because if he is suspended after the hearing, then he won’t be able to train with the national squad. He is now left hanging, and I can feel his pain,” Rashid said.

Rashid added that teammates and the national coaching staff should stand by Chong Wei because he is really in need of support at the moment.

“The atmosphere at the training centre has been dull since this issue came up, and it’s natural because we are a team.

“Chong Wei needs us more than anything now, and we must also be there for him. We have not brought up this doping issue and we all have been treating him like how we did before this.

“We need to cheer him up a little because this is a big issue that has really affected him.”

Chong Wei declined to comment after the training session.

    Melbourne Commonwealth Games 2006

I had a pic with LCW during the Melbourne Commonwealth Games 2006.

There I met, had meals and played badminton with, BC members from Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and even New Zealand. Naturally, we had a wonderful time together! :D

Not in the UK as badminton isn't covered much by the media here. I would probably see one tiny article (if I'm lucky) a year in the newspapers...

    Cool!!! Great apps!!!

I was hoping for something like this. Have your phone take a picture of the ingredients section of the medicine, nutritional supplements or packaged food. The phone does an OCR on the image. And it tells you if you can eat it or not!!!

Or have your phone scan the bar code of the product and search the database and tell you if it is safe to consume!!!

Indeed a very nice and humble down to earth human being. I still remember just before i quit BAM backup team in the mid 90's and when Dato' was still playing for Penang in the junior circuit, his character was impressive enough to catch Morten Frost attention and recommend him to join the BAM Academy which from then his future started.

Five things to know about Malaysian badminton star Lee Chong Wei

    By Chua Siang Yee

Badminton's world No.1 Lee Chong Wei has been provisionally suspended from competition by the sport's world governing body for a doping violation.

The news has stunned his army of fans, who idolise the Malaysian for his achievements on the court and a squeaky-clean image.

Here are five things to know about the badminton star.

    Biodata

    Name: Lee Chong Wei
    Age: 32
    Nationality: Malaysian
    Height: 1.70m
    Weight: 60kg
    Highest singles ranking: 1

    1. Honours

Lee made his professional debut in 2000, but had to wait until 2003 for the first of his 55 international titles, the Malaysia Satellite. He cemented his status as one of the game's top players when he beat rival Lin Dan in the 2005 Malaysia Open final, repeating the feat in 2006. He won the season-ending Badminton World Federation (BWF) Super Series Masters Finals men's singles title four times (2008-2010, 2013), and the prestigious All England Open three times (2010, 2011, 2014). Lee has topped the badminton world rankings for almost 300 weeks, and is a four-time winner of the BWF Player of the Year award (2009-2011, 2013).

He is also Malaysia's most successful athlete at the Olympics, with two silver medals in the men's singles event (2008, 2012). Unfortunately the BWF World Championship singles title (three finals) and the Olympic gold (two finals) continues to elude him.

    2. Basketball

Lee's badminton career might not have taken off – if not for the intervention of his mother. As a child, Lee's preferred sport was actually basketball. But mother Khor Kim Choi disliked the idea of her son playing outdoors in the searing heat. At 10, he picked up badminton, after father Lee Ah Chai took him to a badminton hall. The rest, as they say, is history.

    3. Rivalry with Lin Dan

His time at the pinnacle of the sport was marked by his epic battles with China's Lin Dan. The 31-year-old, nicknamed Super Dan, is widely considered the best player of his generation.

The Chinese seldom tops the world rankings as he is selective about the tournaments he plays. But he holds a superior 23-9 head-to-head record against Lee, including two consecutive Olympic final victories (2008, 2012). Their last meeting was at the Incheon Asian Games singles semi-final, which eventual winner Super Dan won 22-20, 12-21, 21-9.

    4. Datukship

Lee was conferred the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN) by the state of Penang in August 2008, shortly after clinching a men's singles silver medal at the year's Olympics in Beijing. The DSPN is awarded to individuals who have contributed remarkable and outstanding services to the state, and is limited to 800 living persons. It carries the title Datuk, and comes with lifetime pension payments of RM3,000 ($1,161) a month.

    5. Personal life

In 2012, Lee married team-mate and childhood sweetheart Wong Mew Choo, whom he first met at a training camp in 2001, when both were still reserve players in the national team.

Wong, while not as successful as her husband, has two team golds and two individual silvers at the Commonwealth Games.

The pair admitted their relationship had been “on-off”, marred by a public break-up in 2009 amid speculation that Lee was seeing South Korean player Hwang Hye Youn.

They patched up a year later, denying the allegations, and tied the knot over a two-day dinner celebration at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The dinner was attended by several VIPs, including Malaysian ministers Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein and Koh Tsu Koon.

The couple welcomed their first child, son Kingston, in August 2013.

^ In LCW's mind, probably not soon enough...

What I would give to have a review of the chart and treatment notes of the stem cell treatment he had received...

We shall have to wait till then to see if I guessed correctly on the dexamethasone use to potentiate the stem cell treatment...;)

Same as you Visor. What if no dexamethasone was given. That would really set the cat amongst the pigeons.

If no dexa was given in the stem cell treatments at all, then the Aug 15 sample should be negative when they truly test it for dexa this time.

Then if Aug 15 sample is truly negative, and he didn't take any, that would mean it somehow got into his system between Aug 15 and Aug 30.

How? That's the good question... sabotage in food or drink?

No need to worry for WADA, they can consult any authoritative medical experts, the best of the best, anywhere in the world. Already sitting in the Board and the various Committees are some very eminent names.

If not mistaken, the hearing needs to be held 21 days after results of sample B. Or at least decide on the date of hearing within 21 days after results are out.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Badminton World Federation’s (BWF) hearing on world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei’s doping offence is likely to be held in early December.

“We have yet to receive a confirmation on the date of the hearing, but the feedback we got from BWF is that it could be held early next month,” said Ng Chin Chai, the secretary of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

“It takes time for the BWF to appoint their three-member panel for the hearing. After appointing the members, it’s up to the panel to fix the time and date. As the three members are from three different nationalities, they will have to come to a consensus on where and when to hold the hearing,” added Chin Chai.

Chong Wei is now provisionally suspended after testing positive for the banned drug dexamethasone at the World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, on Aug 30. He faces a two-year ban.

The BAM have engaged London-based lawyer Mike Morgan to mitigate his case at the hearing.

Chin Chai also revealed that the hearing could be held through video conferencing.

He cited the case of Bodin Issara, a men’s doubles player from Thailand, as an example.

“In Bodin’s case last year, the hearing was conducted via video conferencing on Skype. The three-man panel heard the case in their respective locations.

“Bodin did not join the video conferencing as he opted to submit a written appeal,” said Chin Chai

Bodin was slapped with a two-year ban for an ugly on-court brawl with former doubles partner Maneepong Jongjit during the final of the Canada Open in July last year.
