Yup. I only play singles. I have tried doubles a coplu of times but only ended up with my partner injured. I do not dare to try it anymore as I do not want anymore people injured. My racket is also too fragile to play doubles. Heard of many clashes.
Towel grip addict here. Top: AT800DF heavily used grip. Bottom: BRS12N fresh new grip. Despite playing exclusively doubles, I don't usually grip over the cone. When I do, I notice that I never hold the racquet past the grip, and anything over the cone and higher is still pretty much new by the time the rest of the towel is worn out.
I play mostly doubles so I grip all the way up to the shaft (3cm up the end of cone) so that I get really good comfort with the grip around the cone when I play up the front (I would usually grip really high up the cone for compact front pushes or kills). Using Yonex Super Tacky Dekoboko and Extra Tacky Twin Dekoboko, I think the tackiness and excellent rugged feel for the grip are awesome. I finish the upper end using double tape before applying on the Yonex sticker at the end. I prefer comfort in use over look so as long as I get the really nice feel with the grip, it would really help with my play.
Just did these 2 back to back. Honestly not very happy with them, but it's my first time trying this method.
I am not brave enough to do my own grip yet. I ask the lady at the courts to do it for me. She bangs it out in 3 seconds so I feel better with her doing it. My grip is from Decathalon (a french supersports store company big in China.) The first one is the original grip that came on the racket. The second one is the new one. I didn't like the original one, too puffy. And white?! It got dirty super quick.
Yeah, in fact decathalon is the only sport superstore in most cities. The other sports shops, especially badminton, are just teeny tiny little stores. I think it was their comfort grip.
Korean-style, with my new-found favourite grip: a £1-a-go Ashaway towel that's even thinner than my beloved 402DX! Victor GR-50 around the butt.
