Sounds good. But,remember, the year-end Super Series Finals are limited to the top 8 players in each category, not the case for the WC, so the rules have to be changed to merge the two events, preferably following the WC qualifications, rules and regulations.
So they must. Badminton is already loaded with tournaments. There should be not more than 4 major tournaments. BWF has gone the right direction by limiting level 2 tournaments at 3. Now it must merge superheroes finals into world championships.
Thanks. But I am thinking along the line of travel agencies that secured good seats. It worked out quite well for the WC in London.
i suppose you could contact badminton scotland directly, or contact every travel agent in scotland...
TTY: "The Universiade is being held in my country for the first time. If I miss this, I’ll not get a chance to play in it anymore,” said the third-year student of the National University of Taipei. “I won’t regret skipping the world meet as it’s held every year.” This will be good news to all her rivals as Tzu-ying has been enjoying an amazing run in women’s singles.

I don't agree with the merging of SSF and WC, SSF is an all elite tournament with round robin system, a super fancy tourney every sport must have. Not only does it help their wallets but also get the competitiveness going "race to Dubai" so that the players play as much SS/SSP there health permits and do well in all of 'em. Although yes, Badminton just like cricket these days have more then necessary tourneys on the calendar. But then whose complaining As far as there's no "compulsion" to play other tourneys unlike SSP its good for the players too. And also allows the second stringers to steal some glory as well
I think the World Championship should be held every 2 years or even 4 years like the olympics. Of course players always fight for every tournament they played in ( who know when they will be injured and all those stuffs, winning superseries are already cool&lucrative enough) but in WC case, the prestige has decreased if its played every year, even TZY decided to skip it. Its just like any other tournament now that you can play every year but not the Universiade. I think the Asian Games are more prestigious that the WC.
Agree with Yoji, and there are so many SS tournaments these days that I lost track and some interest. Table tennis does World Champs every 2 years and has other "World" tournaments like the World Cup (which badminton used to have). It would be nice and more interesting for me personally if badminton could have something like: 2017 - World Championships 2018 - World Cup 2019 - World Championships 2020 - Olympics 2021 - World Championships 2022 - World Cup
By World Cup you mean? Another SC? Coz it essentially makes no diff if its individual event like WC. Just another fancy tourney with lil diff name
It can be a World Cup for league champion clubs, in Sudirman Cup format. So people get to see very interesting mix of all star players. However, the eligibility requirement can be tricky. If the rich clubs buy big names temporarily just for the World Cup, that would not be much fun. Nevertheless, this is an idea worth pursuing. Some early form of competition among league champions should be organized. This would in turn help the leagues and the grass root development of fan base.
The first set of eligible players is out: https://bwf.tournamentsoftware.com/ranking/ranking.aspx?rid=181 In MS, WR#178 Pit Seng LOW of Australia is in. WR#9 Chen Long is waiting for his invitation.
Sort of depressing, I am 151 on the list. Passed by a player from Egypt by 0.1 points and looking at the regulations even if enough players decline i probably wont be able to qualify for singles because of being outside of 150. Fingers crossed some doubles pairs decline and I will be able to qualify there.
This is terrible. If you have to go through the reserve list for MS, it is just impossible. MD looks promising. Good luck to you!
Frankly, I wouldn't like this. This is basically just rebranding some World Championships as World Cup. Also, it takes time to build a brand. Too many changes disrupts that brand. I think there should only be 4 major tournaments, where EVERYONE sits and follows every match. Those should be world champs, and 3 second level tournaments. Others can be lower.
