    Hi,
    new in here,

I have some queries over here.

in early 40s, picked up this hobby a year ago.
formally had some training before but stopped, as the class size is getting bigger.

May i ask, within 2 hours session, what is the acceptable number of students?
If possible, i hope to have 2-3 pax in the 2 hour span.

How often should we train to see improvement?
i felt once a week, is kinda little.

i understand the adult classes are not cheap.. my budget is only $30 per 2 hrs session, east of Singapore, not sure if this is doable.

I felt i should give up but dread to yield..

    How beginner are you?
I reckon u r not planning to go Pro right?
So will be better to actually just play the game.

Also for 1 to 1 can't get at that price unless the coach is just starting off.
Why? Cos to book court for 2 hrs will already be $15 depending where and when. Shuttles? And his effort.

Group size vary. Max to me is 4. But if very beginner 2.

How much to see improvement? It depends on individual 3 to 4 times a week each 2hrs will see u play noticeable better in 1 to 2 mths.

I often use the analogy of learning a language or learning the piano to give some perspective.

Can you learn a new language with once a week lesson?

How much does a language lesson cost in Singapore if one to one?

Can you learn piano with once a week lesson? How often do you need to practice extra to improve?

How much does a piano lesson cost in Singapore?

Given that badminton is a pretty complicated sport, you can now better predict the answers to your questions.

from ground zero, i have progress to mid/high beginner..
played like 5-7 hrs per week, as long as the old body can take the trashing.

never thought of such stuff as pro but its a sense of self satisfaction and achievement.

having said all these, i really wish to push myself to the max and see how far can i go..

i know the coach's time and effort is not charity or in kind, got a friend who is keen to join if time permits.
so its like $60 per session of 2hrs. $45 as the fee, is that reason?

Yeah.. its expensive to learn badminton in singapore.

so far, always been playing mid/high beginner, occasionally we get to see some intermediate playing with us.

Yes, badminton always give me a mixed feeling.

    burden, demoralized, down, bad day
but also feelings of achievement, joy, accomplishment and wanting to be better

    yeah, its getting costly everywhere..

i wonder if there's such a training program whereby you goes for a month or so of training, everyday nothing but badminton :D
sound like some shaolin kungfu camp..

of course, 1 month of such, won't bring you far.
I also know the time, effort of each pro or any badminton players had put in.

I want to be better, i want to excel my current state.
but I'm kinda lost and with limited resources.

Actually, one of our forum members has organised camp where it is almost like that.

But before you start, you must put in some preparation and be much fitter. That would increase the quality of training you can perform and get more value for your money.

How much do you play now? Once a week?

Maybe you are curious about how much better you might be with some training ?

Perhaps you never got the chance to play intensively when you were younger (family pressure on studying and then getting a good job).

Let's say you went on an intensive camp for two weeks and each week trained and played a total of forty hours (an assumption). If your regular routine is once a week of two hours, your intensive camp is providing you with nearly half a year of regular badminton. But the frequency of the training means you can change your game much better.

I think it is well worth it for a holiday instead of getting fat and just eating. :D

I am not one for much sightseeing....unless it is about badminton... Hahaha

most of the training camps in singapore, are for kids.

i'm keen, should there be such camps in Malaysia..
been playing like 2-3 hrs per week, 1 training and 2 rounds of playtime, at least i try to adhere to this.

nope, i only picked up badminton at age of 39..
never expose to this sport before.

i wonder, is there anything that we could do at home, to improve better?
I can only think of lunges and dumbbells curl

Well if u started at 39 and you are now 40++ means u didn't play alot. Especially when u mentioned you have never been exposed to the sport.

What were you playing before badminton? Interesting to know why u got interested in badminton after 30+ yrs of hitus.

But don't push yourself too hard if you are not fit. U risk injury. Especially the knees, ankle and shoulder.

Just keep playing defiantly can improve. I'm sure if u know where to look u can get a coach for adult.

until i had a knee injury which put a stop.. going for op next March..

yes, i had to admit, the frequent plays do get the knees and other part of the body, aching in pain..

so i guess the key is still keep on playing and playing..

I have moved your thread to the techniques/training subforum. It looks to be more appropriate here.

In this subforum, there are other threads which discuss what you can do to get better when not on court. Have a browse to get a feel of them.

ACL or PCL....these 2 will put u down a long long time. Meanwhile don't push too hard. Wear knee support.
Otherwise it will be the beginning of the end.
