So a coach CAN really change a player's fate. Even PVS thanked her specifically in her winning speech.
If Sindhu carries on in the same vein going forward, she has got to be the clear favourite for gold at Tokyo 2020 barring unforeseen circumstances. I don't think Marin, even if she's back to her best, can stop this Sindhu, at most a close fight for her.
Talk about big tournament players, she is right there, is PV Sindhu. The strongest and the richest female badminton player has demolished the former WC in two straight sets. What a performance by PVS! She is not the LCW of WS, she is the PVS of WS. Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the new World Champion of Women Singles, the one and only PVS Play hard. Train harder.
Well deserves victory for PVS. After got several silver, finally she won the gold. Poor, NO. She got destroyed today. A lot of errors and being wrong-footed and exposed really don't help.
PVS was stagnant for some time now after winning the World Tour FInal, thanks to the KOR coach, she has been pretty well before the World Championship. She's finally break that slump and become the World Champion!
PV Sindhu breaks the WC jinx and scripts a fairytale win against Nozomi Okuhara. This is a very special win for India and the first Gold! Sindhu was decisive and dominant in a spectacular win. This is a turning point for Sindhu.
So I hope there will be more Indian players that can follow Sindhu's footsteps. In general, I hope that more and more countries can win in badminton. The success of badminton at the WC and Olympics needs to be spread to different countries. The reason is, there is a movement out there to kick badminton out of the Olympics. That movement hit its strongest point in 2012 after the silly losing scandal at the Olympics, as well as one country winning all the gold medals. Badminton hit a low, in terms of reputation, and in terms of competitiveness, and that fueled all the detractors of badminton that wanted to kick badminton out of the Olympics. The more countries that can win medals in badminton, the more countries that will support badminton to stay in the Olympics. Now India will join the list of countries that will fight to keep badminton in the Olympics. From Europe, Denmark is the main pillar for badminton and I think Spain will also support badminton as well because of Carolina Marin's gold, but we need more European countries to be competitive at the medal stage. Since 2012, I believe Japan and India will fight hard to keep badminton in the Olympics. The more allies we can add to the the list to keep badminton in the Olympics, the better for badminton.
She is only 4th WS player to have medals of all colours @ WOrld championships. All the other 3 were from China
Very true... she did had to work her way through this tournament the hard way beating the likes of TTY, C. Yufei, B. Zhang and NO today. Congrats to Sindhu and India for their well earned first ever gold medal at the World Championship!
