Men's Single Final Pics

Aamir Ghaffar (ENG) defeated Huang C. J. (TPE)

These players are TALL!!!!!! They tower over everybody and Huang looked especially ripped. Ghaffar beat Huang EASILY, though. I think Huang's lacking in exposure to players of Ghaffar's calibre. EASILY!

Women's Single Final

Julie Mann (ENG) defeated Charmaine Reid (CAN) EASILY!

Hi Kwun,

Timeless was there, cappy75, speed78, Asish (I think) for the final. Badrad and Mrs was there Friday night for the semis. Numerous other baddy players from all over Vancouver, and outlying areas.

And finally, Men's Double Final pics

Another all-English affair. The ONLY game of the afternoon that was deemed exciting, as there was passion, drama, and competition. Also the only game that wasn't a two-set blowout, and actually went three sets.

Lindley was really ticked off at the end of the 2nd set cause he had a mental lapse the last few points of the set. He finally threw his racket at the sideline and kicked it to his basket, furious that he fumbled the set point and gave away the set to Palethorpe and Trueman.

Palethorpe was berating himself with the Celtic (English?) accent, and THAT was entertaining!

Much celebration at the end when Palethorpe and Trueman won over Lindley and Roebuck.

I was surprised there wasn't any CBC TV crew set up. The guy at the door said CBC used the Canadian Open as a "dry-run" to set up their cameras and such to practise for the NHL hockey season. Since there's a lockout, and no hockey, they didn't need to practise. So no TV coverage.

Pretty sad the Koreans didn't make it this time. I miss the Korean presence in the competition, and also in the audience. No "DAEEEEE HAN MIN GOOK!" chants.

Officials there said next year they would move the Canadian Open up by a month, to start in August, in order to attract more players before the World Championships in Anaheim. They're expecting Korea, and Indonesia to attend, but would have to be confirmed.

Good to hear you got Ardy's autograph, Ashish ... :D
