Chong Wei wins Japan Open
By RAJES PAUL

TOKYO: Lee Chong Wei made a remarkable comeback to win the Japan Open Mens badminton singles title at Tokyo on Sunday.
He defeated Olymbpic champion Taufik Hidayat 22-20, 19-21, 21-19 in a pulsating 65-minute final match. The win made up for his disappointment at home last month, after crashing out of the third round of the World meet.:):p:D:cool:;)

Well, well....it's certainly a disappointment for Team Pelatnas...with 3 Finals and 0 victory today

It's always tough to beat Zheng Bo/Gao Ling and at their best, the Chinese pair should reign supreme. Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir have tried their best (esp in the first set) when they were leading 14-9 and then 17-14. However, the Chinese pair managed to catch up and eventually took the set 21-19. The second set was also a close affair until the halfway stage when the Chinese pair found their momentum and finished that match 21-14.

Nevertheless, the match of the day (and perhaps tournament) should belong to the Men's Singles match between Lee Chong Wei and Taufik Hidayat. What a match that was...and certainly Lee Chong Wei is a deserved winner after beating Chen Jin, Lin Dan and now Taufik Hidayat. Credit to Taufik Hidayat for not giving up as well. He could have just given up at 9-15 in the second set. Yet, he was very motivated to actually level the score at 15-15 and take the set. The same thing happened in the rubber-set when Chong Wei was leading 20-14. Taufik simply refused to go away (unlike in last year's Final against Lin Dan when he just conceded the match). Point by point, he crept closer until it was 19-20. Unfortunately, he couldn't force a deuce and Lee Chong Wei eventually won the match in his 6th match point. Congratulations to the MAS player as he wins his second Super Series title and he surely is a contender for the medals at the Olympics 2008.

The women's singles event turned out to be a surprise as Tine Rasmussen went all the way to beat 4 out of the 5 Chinese players competing in this event....starting from Jiang Yanjiao, Zhang Ning, Lu Lan and Xie Xingfang. Incredible feat! Suddenly, the sure Gold at the Beijing Olympics is no longer safe now

As for women's doubles, there's no doubt as to who will win it. Yang Wei/Zhang Jiewen beat their junior with ease.

It's not meant to be for Luluk Hadiyanto/Alvent Yulianto  They still have to wait longer for their title since 2004. Tony Gunawan/Candra Wijaya still show that they are still good enough to be among the top pairs in the world. They were the better pair during the decisive points, when they were trailing 11-14 and then 16-17 in the first set and at 14-14 in the second set. Hopefully, Luluk/Alvent can take consolation that they are on the upward trend since the SCG Thailand Open. We'll see what they can do in the upcoming Chinese-Taipei Open.

none of my friends care about badminton...so please humor me by atleast pretending to be jealous....please.:o

Today, I had the chance to spend the day at the yonex open finals! I had a front row seat. There was a lot of great badminton. the highlights of my day go like this.
1. see, hold, and swing about with the new yonex ARCSaber7. Gao Ling does use it by the way, and she won with it too!

2. peter gade sits right in front of me to watch Rasmussen win.

3. Watch wijaya and Gunawan win. Afterwards Wijaya, feeling elated, hits the winning point shuttle into the arena area seating....me and a few others jump up and ask him to hit another towards us...being the only white guy, he sees me when I say , "Hey! Wijaya!" and he taps it right into my hands!:D

4. I feel great, and go buy a new Nanno9000s and a pair of SHB100's

It'd be nice if someone said, "hey, that's cool" without being sarcastic...thanks

"hey, that's cool" .

just finished watching part of the MS final on tele (had to switch between the F1) and it was one heck of a match.. it was just :eek::eek:
TH with his amazing, amazing backhand (just wish mine was half as good!!) was also :eek:.
Congrats to LCW, i'm glad that he has another win under his belt - really well deserved. lets hope that this form continues to impress.

I feel for you. You deserve another sincere, "hey cool!" remark from fellow badminton afficionados :)

Taufik could've won, but Lee Chong Wei did well. I'll post something and hopefully some of the pictures I took later tonight(Japan time).

Hi I am new here, my nickname is zazaza.

Just want to share what I got.

Choong Wei vs LinDan and Choong Wei vs Taufik Finals

http://support.kdupg.edu.my/badminton.htm

Earlier I have downloaded a few good quality videos on Japan Finals Single between Lee and Taufik, just that the ASTRO is affacted by RAIN FADE disruption at the end of Game 1 and middle of Game 2.

However I live at a different area in Malaysia and is not affected by the rain fade.
