Wow...an excellent finish to a great semi-final tie this morning (HKG time).
Eventually, as most of us have predicted,
INA prevails after beating ENG
3-2...but not without scares. In the last match of a long day, the scratch pairing of
Candra Wijaya/Markis Kido beat Anthony Clark/Robert Blair 21-17, 21-14.
As kwun mentioned, the ENG pair looked okay in the beginning, esp in the first set until the points were shared at 16-16. Then, the INA pair started to increase their tempo and went on another gear to make it 19-16, 19-17 and then 2 last points to finish off the first set.
In the second set, the INA pair raced off to a 3-0 set, only for the ENG pair to regain their momentum with 5 straight points to lead 5-3. From then on, it was all INA....with Kido's smashes and Candra's intelligent plays, they led 11-7 at the interval, and shortly after 19-12. The ENG pair got their 2 last points before Candra/Kido finished them off 21-14.
Cue jubilation all around the INA camp...and the target of yet reaching the Final of Sudirman Cup is miraclously achieved yet again
The players will have nothing to lose against Team China tomorrow.
