    2010 Australian Badminton Open GP
    Melbourne - 20 to 25 July 2010

    After holding the successful 2009 Australian Open Tournament, it was thought that this tournament would be upgraded to Level 3 Grand Prix Gold category in 2010. Rumour has it that Yonex is willing to sponsor it with US$120,000 total prize money.

    It looks like it's not going to be, according to the BWF Tournament Calendar.

    with the price money and the higher level, surely it will become more attractive for the guns to come

    but why its not in BWF Tournament Calendar? what a shame :(

    How do we get tickets?

    And is it realistic at all to expect some of the well known players to come?

    When the tickets are on sale, you'll be informed

    .
    You will be informed later;
    1. When the tickets are on sale, and
    2. Who are the players coming to participate.

    INA players will be there! ;) Last year the National team coaches didn't even realize there is such a thing called the Australian Open GP.... :p They realized too late and just sent players to New Zealand... :p Only the independent players [like Alamsjah] and Djarum players went...

    I don't think the INA National team will repeat the same mistake this year.

    Australian Open GP and New Zealand Open GP scheduled to follow each other

    .
    Yes, if coming down south, INA players might as well participate in both the Australian Open GP and New Zealand Open GP. They are scheduled to follow each other.

    * Australian Open GP ....... 13-18 July, 2010
    * New Zealand Open GP ... 20-24 July, 2010

    Yes ofcourse it's quite cheap down here, only one condition though; you have to be a permanent resident or a citizen, become our one big family basically :)

    Our medicare is an income tested base, so if you earn more you will pay more for the Medicare tax levy, on average its a few hundreds AUD per family per year. Thats why i argued on the other thread that its should also be affordable in the US

    I have heard news and sources that the Aussie GP will be soon included into the super series.

    Tentatively there is still no approval because of lack of sponsors but BWF is VERY keen on the idea. I wish I was in Melbourne to do my very bit to promote the sport. Soon, Australia can have their own world champion.

    Super Series from 2011-2013: Australia not chosen

    .
    Adrian-K, You've probably heard this from WLP. But unfortunately, here is the latest news:
    ...... there is no place at the top table for Australia, the United States, Vietnam or Macau (from 2011 to 2013).
