Congrats to Saina and India for pipping England to 3rd place.

Congrats too for WMC and the Malaysian squad. Kept her spirit up although it was not to be. If only we could duplicate that same spirit across the Malaysian juniors.

Yes, very true Abedeng............

congrates for malaysia and india
winning most of the medal:D
too bad wmc cant retired with a cwg gold:crying:
she did her best
well done to malaysia team:)

It had been an enjoyable Women's Singles final. It was the feature of the day, which saw Saina Nehwal fully deserving of victory, yet shows how well the attributes of the fighting spirit could bridge the talent gap between victor and losing finalist. It was a critical Gold for India too, and England is left in 3rd position overall.

I would be very sorry to see WMC retire one day. Although her skills are limited and she didn't have many notable achievements, the bar she set to her younger teammates is probably too high for them to achieve for a while.

It took 2 and a half decades from the retirement of our last
world class player, Sylvia Ng, before WMC burst into the scene. It might take just as long to find a comparable successor to WMC.

Just checked the tournament stats, the WS match took 72 minutes, that's almost 15 minutes more than their match during the team event final.

Aiyah, this is nothing compared to being 2nd class citizen in your own country of birth.
At least we treat new migrants equally. That's why they pay back with gold medals, hehe.

Up north, early migrants from China and their descendants have always been treated 2nd class. Even migrants of the same skin colour from a neighbouring country are treated better as 1st class citizens, mind you they are not locally born. No use using empty slogans to try to unify the people. Isn't this more embarassing?

Come on, not all of them are immigrants! Derek Wong Zi Liang was born in Singapore and he is the son of Wong Seng Kiat, the coach of Monfort Sec School.

Pity wmc again on the stamina issue. She could have nailed it if she didn't let go on the second game. ;)

Good try. Too bad. No energy again. ;) She could have come in for kill after smashing. Also no punching ability. These should have given her a few valuable points. ;)

Final results:
XD : Koo Kien Keat / Chin Eei Hui (MAS) beat Nathan Robertson/Jenny
Wallwork (ENG) : 22-20 21-12

Singapore 0 1 2
Australia 0 0 1

All final matches finished in straight-sets except WS, save the best for last ;)
Congrats to all medalists :)

I'm suite desapointed with England's performance...
They were 6th at last the Sudirman cup......
While India is only in the second group right ?

And no win for them in their 3 finals....

Well, India showed more hunger to win second position overall than England. Although Saina Nehwal won the decisive gold that separates the two teams, it was the victory of Ashwini Ponnappa/Jwala Gutta that made it possible. Had they lost, England would be second based on number of silver medals.

Nathan Robertson could have performed better to nick one of the two Gold Medal matches he was involved in.

Yep but for the ranking of medal tally we usually use the number of Gold, then Silver, then Bronze, no matter the overall number of medals..

Frankly WMC has done very well to reach the final, despite her earlier loss in the team event.

Now, being so highly ranked and playing in front of her home fans, Saina will be a huge embarassment if she should lose. Many would have thought she could win in 2 games.

And now Tommy, you should remind yourself to behave better and not to embarass Spore all the time.

Uncle aiyah reverse psychology mah:DNot many people can upset you more than me:pAnd what's the bull about the 2nd or 3rd citizenship thingy LMAO;)The rackets are not in my hands, SIN shuttlers destiny rest on themselves mah, take care of your temper and EQ also, hehe. 4 years later, we will cross sword again.:)

I am so proud of WMC after watched that match......she was full with fighting spirit with never say die attitude..

Playing a 6 years younger opponent is tough but she actually matching SN in all departments, only a bit short in stamina.....

Great work WMC, well done......You make MAS feel proud even with a silver WS medal.
WMC's game got too simplified and became too easy for Saina to read. WMC was basically hanging on in the 3rd game. Hardly any offensive shots. Saina was jerking her all over the court by taking WMC's shots early.
well done Saina good try WMC u gave your all it breaks my heart to see u work so hard to earn every single point
..concur. And for those who didn't get a chance to watch the exciting WS Gold medal match, you can see the last 1.5 of that match here (see last post):
