    Semifinals Day Atmosphere

It was getting even more vibrant as more Malaysian students from all over the UK filled the Arena, complete with the customary battlegear aka whistles, Malaysian kompang drums (now how did they get that inside the NIA, I wonder), supporter uniforms, more flags of different sizes, and of course, the placards.

Chinese supporters had grown in numbers too, with more huge red flags waving at various parts of the stadium.

The crowd were treated to a great display. Even in matches that were supposed to be foregone conclusions, Marc Zweibler and the Danish girls showed what true grit meant, and thus earned a lot of respect from the fans and their opponents.

On the adjacent court, however, all the matches pretty much went to form. But again, the Wang Xin vs Wang Shixian match probably wasn't too convincing. Wang Shixian won a bit too easily, and from 3-9 down too.

The German XD pair gave some decent fight against Ma Jin/Xu Chen, but I feel that Bridget Michels doesn't really combine well with Michael Fuchs. The scoreline may be close by the match wasn't.

Similar case too with cute Eriko Hirose and Petya Nedelcheva. Cute Eriho had the match in the bag, so much that she could afford to donate 6-7 points off Nedelcheva's baseline in the 2nd game alone. Not the recipe to beat WSX, surely .....

The two Japanese pairs played some long rallies and as expected the less fatigued aka as the pair who didn't play the Chinese in the previous round won. Today, their defences will be tested by Wang Xiaoli.

Boe and Mogensen's matchup against Guo Zhendong and Chai Biao was a bit of a joke really. I dare say that if the Chinese weren't faulted too many times in the 1st game, the outcome could have been much different. Not to say that the service judge is incorrect, of course. But by the 2nd game, the Chinese must have been thinking that even the officials are dead set against them. Their will to fight on was broken.

Sudket and Saralee had it easy against Hendra Setiawan and Anastasia Russkikh. No need for tongue lashing or additional coffee breaks too. Hendra is just not in his best form this tournament.

LCW vs Chen Long was a pretty good workout. Driven by the "I Love Lee" signboard shown by the enthusiastic Malaysians, it was a "controlled demolition job". Chen Long deserves mention for making a decent fight out of it. At least he didn't look blank and out of ideas.

The last match not shown on TV was a great cliffhanger, but only on the 2nd game. On the 1st, Cai Yun decided to come to work late. Koo Kien Kiat had all the time he needed to dictate the net. Although the Chinese did get as close as 10-12 in one occasion, their game crumbled again and the placement smashes and angled drives from Tan Boon Heong had more brainpower than normal to force wild returns. Their defences held well to Fu Haifeng's pile driver too, something not see since the Paris World Championships final.

The 2nd is when the Chinese fully woke up and Cai Yun started moving forward. Coupled with some decent flick serves from Fu Haifeng that caught the Malaysians out, the Chinese came through by 3 pts at the break. But the Malaysians were not going to let go and started moving Cai Yun back. It was touch and go all the way and there were some heart-stopping moments as both pairs traded extremely weak serves. Finally the Malaysians nailed it on their 2nd matchpoint to huge cheers from the fans.

Thanks for the reports from lcleing, fiish and abedeng. Fans (and BCers) at courtside must have enjoyed the matches. Very often Semi-Finals matches are more exciting to watch than the Finals.

But this Finals should be exciting because there is no CHN-vs-CHN match.

It's great that KKK could find time to change his racket in the middle of the rally. :D:D:D

Don't know why CHN did not attack that half of the court when a player was down on the floor (the first time), but they eventually managed to do it the second time. :):):)
