The tournament will kick off today on 12.00pm local time, stage qualifying round and MS main draw R/64.

And later tonight another top American , Sattawat Pongnairat, will be in tough against Niluka Karunaratne of Sri Lanka. Not an easy night for the host team.

Are any BC'ers at the venue to give us updates?

If anyone want to follow the story of the tournament, then focus on Dean Schoppe and Matt Forgerty who are both 57 years old and still competing. They used to compete in MD with each other but this year's edition sees Dean in MS and XD (with Jennifer Yee) and Matt in MD with (Alistair Casey).

Dean lost his MS qualifying.

By the way, Matt competed in the recent 2013 Ottawa International Challenge in the MS and XD events. He lost in 3 sets to a Jackie Yeung (21-15 17-21 11-21)...

Not bad for a couple of "OLD" folks :)

Doesn't look like Mathew is playing with Alistair, must be injured. Remembered a clip I watched of him against LYD/JJS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqlBRLR_7Ro pretty fun to watch(sorry of topic)

Good to see Bankier and Blair pairing together, tough second round draw though if they get through. Will there be any streaming available?

Local WS Zhang Beiwen stuns European promising talent 4th seed Carolina Marin in straight-sets.

I believe Blair pulled something, so he had to retire. Niluka did not show up yesterday and gave a walkover. I did Sayaka Sato vs. Sapsiree. That was a long match. 1 hour and 11 minutes.

Yes I noticed that ex-Singapore player Zhang BW has done well to be able to beat the very talented Carolina.

Having followed her progress for a long time, IMO Zhang would have been quite a sensation in Singapore if she had not fallen out with her coaches over discipline. Hope she has turned over a new leaf and be truly professional.

The SBA has invested a great deal in her when she was scouted in China and brought over here for training since about 13. Now's the chance for Zhang to shine for herself and her newly adopted country.

The setup looks more like a IC event than a GPG. I remember pics from previous years where it look es different

yes Blair hurt his foot apparently and had to retire don't know if that was why they were down so heavily in the third or if he injured it and stopped immediately with no effect on score?

He continued to play while injured for a bit then retired when the interval started.

She trains in Las Vegas these days.. Looks like she is on the right path!
