MS - Lee Chong Wei (MAS)
WS - Tai Tzu Ying (TPE)
MD - Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan (INA)
WD - Bao Yixin/Tian Qing (CHN)
XD - Joachim Fischer Nielsen/Christinna Pedersen (DEN)

The qualifying round is already started, 09.00am local time and using 5 courts. A fully packed tournament, first SS Premier of this year is expected to deliver more competitive badminton matches :)

Home fave Lee Chong Wei will chase 10th MAS Open title here, what a record!

Simon Santoso failed to pass first test as Gao Huan defeated him in close 80 mins contest, 14-21 / 24-22 / 21-19. Simon can't fulfill semifinal target in 2 SS, most likely he'll be out of Pelatnas :(

if Simon is booted out, who INA can count on in Thomas Cup?

someone messed up the typing case, all first names for this tournament appear in capitals, so uncomfortable to read...

The Simon's golden era already passed.
But, to be fair, since the beginning, we already knew that target being set is 99% impossible to be fulfilled. The draw is not in Simon's favour
Other INA MS players cannot also deliver better result when facing Chen Long (Tommy just beated him once).

INA has Tommy, Sony, and Hayom. Hayom got slightly better result recent time. Wish Tommy can defend last-year performance this year. But, Sony is still vulnerable to injury.
Simon is still needed for Thomas cup.

INA has Alamsyah Yunus who ranks 2nd behind Sony by the number of points per tournament. His pondered ranking by the end of 2013 was 14 (compared to Simon (17), Tommy (19) and Hayom (22), even though he only played at 9 tournaments. We should see him more often. Another promising youngster is Jonatan Christie, he should improve his consistency this year and play more senior tournaments as well.

Actually, I am talking about list of players for TC.
Alamsyah Yunus was there for long times. His achievement is a little bit good, but the probability he joining TC team is very small.
This year, chance for trophy is bigger for INA team (compared to previous three editions). I still rate CHN has best chance, but the competition should become more open this year. Sending youngster, like JC, to TC is most unlikely choice for INA.

All MAS members must be in the stadium. It's a holiday and it's free admission to today's matches.

I wrote earlier in Professional players section, I believe Simon is still among top 4 INA WS and the gap with the rest is still wide.

If Simon can't easily beat Gao Huan, then it will be uphill task facing China in Thomas Cup. I hope the young players(Wisnu, Riyanto or even Jo) can improve in 5 months time and be better than current Simon.

Alamsyah Yunus, he can be good back up against any other countries, except China.

Some brutal R1 matches out there but the most exciting one for me has to be....

Zhang/ Fu vs KIM/ KIM :)

Will this be the start of an elite pairing? Fu should have some confidence back after reaching last weeks Final.Never seen Zhang play much MD. I think it's safe to assume he's pretty good.

Notable others;
Adcock/ Adcock v Liu/ Bao
Shixian vs Takahashi
Liew vs Pengyu Du
Ahsan/ Setiawan vs Adcock/ Ellis
Momota vs Axelsen
Xuerui vs Buranaprasertsuk
KKK/ TBH vs Hong/ Chai
Sasaki vs Feng Chong Wei

anyone in the stadium? how MRM vs gao huan match?

This match is currently on TS Live score.

Gao 17-13 Misbun in deciding game

EDIT- All over

Huan Gao vs Misbun 21-9, 12-21, 21-17

Should be noted Santoso held 3 match points vs Gao earlier.

It's ridiculous target, let's wait what happens to Simon next...

ROUND of 32 order of play (09.00am, 5 courts) => http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/s...3CB08F-376F-4268-BEDD-905EECF07145&d=20140115
