2016 Badminton ASIA Championships : SEMIFINALS (30th April)

@Oldhand I know, but someone posted a picture yesterday of Lin Dan training, he had one of his legs wrapped up. Think he was injured and didn't want to play the third?

Thanks for the info. Anyway he could have given a WO if he is injured. Anyway, everyone is happy to see both players played in the semifinal showdown.

Lin Dan has been doing this for many many years: he doesn't want to do his best (or be seen to be doing his best) and loses to LCW.

LCW would not have and has never done the same against LD.

It is the most basic concept in sportsmanship.
A win is a win. Do you have to lose one to show sportsmanship? LCW is hungry for an edge before OLY. LD knows it, CL knows it, the entire CHN coaching staff are nervous and will analyze LCW every play after this tournament. We will see a Final showdown tomorrow and who has the upper edge: LCW or CL.

To be honest

I am very happy how Lin Dan played in the first two sets. That makes me extremely confident about his chances in Olympics with special preparations coming for Thomas cup and Olympic.

Personally, I think the original plan of Lin Dan was to win the first set.. Rest and recover in the second..... And then battle With all his might in the third.

But unfortunately, he learned another lesson today that thinking the job is done. Before it's actually done leads to bad/not what the plan was type of consequences. But again, he was just saving a bit more fuel at the end of the first game.... So, can't really blame him.

Yes we can't blame LD. LD can do whatever he wants even to lose to LCW. it is his prerogative. LCW deserves the win as he wants this more than LD.

Don't you find G3 rather odd, weird, abnormal from Lin Dan ? My understanding is he doesn't mind losing to anybody except his archrivals, LCW and CL. The way he played and lost the 3rd set, he could've been beaten by just about anybody, to a 50th ranked or even a 200th ranked player.

Furthermore, he already knew Chen Long is awaiting in the final. He just beat CL last Sunday, not an easy feat at all, why would he want to undo all his gains, psychological, etc, to the same player who is a serious challenger to his Olympic campaign for the ultimate prize ?

And how did LCW celebrate the victory, was he jumping for joy, fell to the ground elated, overwhelmed ?

Too many dubious points, unanswered questions and doubts, hence giving rise to speculations. I won't be surprised even Lin Dan 's coaches may not really know what he's up to.

Thank you for reading LD's mind and interpreting it to all of us, mere mortals.

That s why LD played 5 tournaments in 5 weeks because it s to do with beginning with the end in mind.
The end is the OG and part of achieving that end is to get to WR2, otherwise he will have LCW in his half, assuming CL and LCW are ranked TOP 2. ( I assume same country players will be in different halves based on OG rule.) LD s key objective before OG is to get enough ranking points to reach WR2. LD did not play 5 tournaments in 5 weeks so his fans can enjoy seeing him lose!!

Let s get real. Are you delighted that LD lost to LCW? LCW used to have to have a clear lead over LD in the final game to defeat LD. LCW s two recent victories over LD were won, coming from behind, a huge contrast from the past. LCW no longer has Rashid. Tommy Sugiarto now has Rashid and could not beat CHN players since ( Tommy had beaten CL and LD before he had Rashid.)

LCW now has Frost and Hendrawan and you can tell they have done a lot of homework so that LCW has better awareness of opponent vulnerability. It has nothing to do with his opponents. It s about having the mental alertness under pressure, to use the best tactics at the right time and he has all the skills and experience to deliver. There s no guarantee but at least LCW still has lots of room to improve, in that space.

Again, my question to you, are you absolutely delighted LD lost to LCW yesterday?

So Rashid is a very very bad coach?

the endless war... every fan will consider those on their own idol are reasons, those on other players are excuses... but don't tell me one thing or other is the truth...

i don't see LD and his fans are saints and perfect, neither LCW & his fans...

I don't see many Malaysian fans of LCW anymore. Compared to last time.

I notice lots of Indian fans nowadays.

Could someone guide me where I could find the longest badminton match video? This was the womens doubles semis, Yanao & Fukuman versus Polii & Maheswari, 2016 Asian Championships.
