Any better alternative than the WD disqualfication?

It shd be the same punishment like for doping........disqualified + a period of suspended from playing international tournament.

Not very flattering mugshots. I mean, what were they thinking? Obviously they need to attend the Lin Dan School of Match Throwing. It takes years of Oscar-winning performances to have it down to a T.

My point of view is :

This incident could be prevent if BWF could have actually make use of what they did in Thomas Cup whereby the group winner in each grp will redraw after the group stage.

Whereby the group winner will draw with either one of the 4 group 1st runner up.
Therefore this incident can avoid to the minimize.

Hi everybody, you all posted some great ideas. It's so unfortunate it has to come down to disqualifications. This is my suggestion for future Olympic draws.

I think the group format is still an excellent idea and should be kept the way it is. Except once all the 8 advancing pairs are known, they should redo the draw in the elimination round according the current world rankings of the players. Remember, the group plays was really designed to prevent a shocking upset. So that means if the two Chinese pairs had finished second in each of their group, the elimination draw would STILLl put them as #1 and #2 seeds. Does anybody follow? :) I can draw a diagram if needed LOL

Dude, if you are talking about the CHN-KOR match, think carefully what you are asking for, you may regret it. Agree the KOR cutie may look great with less on or none on:p But the CHN pair, err...some kids may have recurring nightmare for the rest of their life:D

I lol'ed so hard!!

well that would be a scar for their whole life
maybe they will be afraid to have a relationship with women with short hair

well for me, disqualification is the only way, this is the only BWF and IOC can save their face

What sponsors do you have in mind :D? In this poor choice of shots it looks like a wanted poster for mental ward escapees

this is so amusing, I literally laugh until my stomach hurts and my tears come out

Notwithstanding this controversy, I also like the group stage for its benefits: more matches overall + lesser-ranked players to stay longer in the Olympics (rather than just lose two tame games and go home).
But we must eliminate the possible incentive for match-throwing. That is what we did for Thomas/Uber. I'm sure we can find a way for the Olympics.

However, I think BWF is shaken by this and will take the safe route in doing away with group stage altogether.

not talking about ALTERNATIVE
but, no medal in this WD event is better solution.

out of 8 pairs progressing to QF, imho, ONLY Pederssen/Juhl pay by honour to progress and are "clean" in this drama situation. and now, they are also out of contestion of medal

just dig discussions in several threads, and still rest questions

1. Did BWF of IOC also investigate match Fujii/Kakiiwa vs Chen/Chien?

2. Anyone have the link of that match? please share
Want to watch it for stronger justification
