Canadian Television Coverage = None?

thanks for your reply. Ultrasurf has gotten me past the zip code part, but for some reason, although the website allows me to access its video directory, when I actually start watching, it says sorry, video is restrcited to only us viewers only. Why does ultrasurf not work for me?

Proxies are usually classed as transparent, anonymous or high anonymity. A transparent proxy won't work at all, and even some anonymous proxies might not work, depending on how strict the web site is monitoring. Ultrasurf is scanning for fast proxies, and some of them might not be fully anonymous. You could try other software like Proxy Switcher Standard, or just Google for a fast anonymous US proxy dated today.

TVants offers a whole slew of CCTV-5 channels.

do you think by buying a membership for something like proxify would work?

most free proxies cannot run sites with heavy scripts, let alone silverlight

I've been using Ultrasurf or free proxies all week. Sometimes the video runs smooth, sometimes not. Haven't tried proxify.

The CBC coverage is medicore for Canadians, so I've started this thread, because I am having difficulty watching some good badminton like many others.

Here is how you can watch some live badminton. These do not work for me (which is why I'm making this post) but they work for others.

www.cctvolympics.com (CCTV official streaming website)
www.cbc.ca/olympics/livevideo (Official CBC Stream)
http://www.tvants-ppstream.com/ (TVAnts program to access CCTV streams)
http://2008.cctv.com/06/01/05/index.shtml (Another CCTV stream website)

Please tell me how you guys are watching badminton online. I tried the Ultrasurf method to access NBC but it doesn't work. Apparently NBC and BBC have the best badminton streams. Thanks.

Hmm, www.cctvolympics.com needs me register, any clues how to? Thanks.

Nevermind, thanks for the link, I figured it out.

I've been using proxies from this website:
http://www.xroxy.com/proxy-country-US.htm
They've been working for me all week, although sometimes it takes more than one try. Just take the IP and port number and put it in in your connection settings for your browser. If you're using Firefox, it's:

Tools>Options>Advanced>Network
Click on connection settings....
Then choose "Manual Proxy Configuration"
Check "Use this proxy server for all protocols"
and Then put an IP address and port number from the site above.
It works for me. I've been watching matches all week on NBC.

I will try it out when Maria and Saina are playing.:) But I did try to press one of the boxes-LIVE, but it didn't work.:( CCTV on TVANTS lags and gave me blackouts very frequently last night.

You should really look at post #107 and try it out for the NBC feed because it works.... in Canada!

I admit TVants isn't ideal. As madbad notes, NBC is probably better.

If you want to go the proxy route for CCTV-5, you could try Proxy Switcher Standard. It lists 202.108.251.112:80 and 125.40.47.112:3128 as anonymous Chinese proxies, but both have pretty lousy response times, and I suspect they'll get overwhelmed with traffic pretty soon now if they haven't been already.

If you've read my post and are using Internet explorer, here are the directions for that. Using an IP address and port number from the link I have in post #107, follow these directions (I haven't tried this yet for internet explorer, so pm me if there's a problem, I'll try to help you out).

Tools>Internet Options>Connections
Click on LAN Settings
THere should be an option for "use proxy server" or such, click that, and insert the IP address and port numbers like on the site (I linked it tin the forum)
If it doesn't work, try checking "bypass proxy server for local addrses" or something...I haven't tried it yet.

hi. ive tried every method possible (i think) and it seems like ultrasurf has been the best so far.

but it still buffers every 30 seconds, how do I stop this from happening?

my current connection is 10mbps down and 1mbps up, so its pretty fast

why do i buffer so much?

Really? It's not like that for me. I watched 4 matches straight through without that. Only when I load a different match does it buffer. Are you using Mozilla?

Unbelievable!!

CBC has done it again. They have removed their scheduled streaming of the badminton finals online. I am very disappointed, and I have send an email to them regarding this. I know they probably won't change their decision, but at least I feel 1% better. Curse you CBC!
