CCC League Games Trial #2 - Fri 13th April

Hi all,

Welcome to the return of the CCC League games. It is similar to the first trial in that it is played in a more competitive spirit than the regular social games. As before the games will run in parallel with the regular social. There has been some tweaking in the way the games are arranged to improve play.

The Play

In this trial the number of teams has been reduced to 2, each with 6 players. No handicap will be applied to any of the scores so each game is a straightforward race from 0 to 21 aces with no setting. There will be 18 games in total, arranged to favour pairing of players of similar skill.

Team Scoring

One team point will be accrued for each game won. At the end of the night the aces scored for each team will be summed, the team with the higher number of aces will be awarded one additional team point for every 20 aces difference.

So what are you waiting for?

Team Selection

Prior to the night I will select the teams using the following:

(1) Divide the interested players into two groups of 6 based on the regular social handicap.

(2) From each group of six players 3 players will be randomly selected. The selected players will form one team, the remaining players will form the other.

Game Arrangement

Assign each player a letter from a through f, the games will be:

Team 1 vs Team 2

a & b vs a & b
a & b vs b & c
b & c vs a & b
a & c vs a & b (x 2)
a & b vs a & c (x 2)

b & c vs c & d
c & d vs b & c
c & d vs d & e
d & e vs c & d

d & e vs e & f
e & f vs d & e
e & f vs e & f
d & f vs e & f (x 2)
e & f vs d & f (x 2)

There are 18 games in total, each player plays 6 games. To summarise the opponents that each player will face, refer below.

Player a meets opponent: ax5, bx4, cx3
Player b meets opponent: ax4, bx3, cx4, dx1
Player c meets opponent: ax3, bx4, cx2, dx2, ex1
Player d meets opponent: bx1, cx2, dx2, ex4, fx3
Player e meets opponent: cx1, dx4, ex3, fx4
Player f meets opponent: dx3, ex4, fx5

If the players in each team are arranged according to skill then games played will be with a partner of similar skill against players of similar skill. I hope that this will balance pairs to increase the quality of the ralleys.
