Gu Junfeng dished out another come from behind win today, this time against Lei Lanxi. This should offer some consolation to Sun Fei Xiang. Has Gu really improved or is he just having very good form in this championship? Have not seen Gu play since his junior days.

There's a big question, on the other side Lei Lanxi who dubbed as Mr.Five Sets during recent CBSL, repeats his habit about inconsistency, the left-handed practically so passive in the deciding game rather than speeds up the tempo.

Gu Junfeng result in 2017 WJC, lost three games to Thai prodigy at third round. upload_2020-11-8_17-10-7.png

7x11 format is highly energy sapping. not easy to play. Ren PB was already a spent force by the 5th and 6th set. I am amazed by the speed, power and fitness of Gu JF. Gao Zhengze still does not have a strong attack. Today he just couldn't find the length of the court, sending either long or 3/4 court shots. Against a fast attacking player like WHY who is also a good retriever and at times deceptive there was no way Gao could have won. Wang Zhiyi/ Chen Yifei match tomorrow will be very entertaining. I dare not predict a winner, but I think Weng may have the edge against Gu.

Delighted to see the MS finals is between 2 of the juniors I have always liked. They have power and deception with good footwork.
Well done the CBA having this sort of competition. The best will shine.

Both Weng and Gu are 21 with Weng a couple of months younger. I remember I was a bit surprised that he (Weng) was not sent to the WJC in Jakarta after performing quite well in the AJC one year earlier. Both are fast attacking players, but expect them to pace themselves because of the 7 x11 format. Weng's defence is very good . This couples with his experience may just see him through.

Talking about footwork WZY was at her best in this department yesterday, this together with her good anticipation and placing shots saw her dominating Zhou Meng through out the match. Base on current forms her match against CYF will be a toss up.

Wow! If I saw it correctly it is 750,000 yuan for the WD champs. That is about USD 113K USD, a lot of money.

It cannot be that much. Still can't see clearly. Realistically It should be RMB 75,000 or USD 13+ K.

Watched glimpses of final set of WS final, WZY was very good at retrieving, she should try to be a bit more aggressive.

To me, it's not a good idea to mix two different scoring systems within a week of each other or at all, it can be quite confusing and difficult to adjust for the participants of both events, one week it's the 21-point best of three sets and the next it's the 11-point best of seven sets, the more so when the 11-point scoring system is seldom used in any tournaments.

Yes agreed WZY has improved a lot but as noted she needs more aggression.
The MS was exciting. WHY is certainly the better player. GJF has poor net play but great defence, especially against WHY's smashes but because of his errors he was under pressure often. GJF's footwork is a little clumsy and he rushes his shots. Pity we cant see them playing in tournaments against the rest of the world. That would be the real test.

This is because they have too many participants , as many as 256 in the MS if I am not mistaken. That's why the 5x11 scoring system was adopted up to the 1/4 finals and 7x11 after that.

I concur with this observation. In fact it was his 3 consecutive net errors in the 6th set which settled the issue for WHY.
