That's strange. According to this report https://sports.sina.com.cn/others/badmin/2021-04-27/doc-ikmxzfmk9260951.shtml:-

"男单资格赛共三轮,谌龙、石宇奇等直接进入决赛圈,而包括赵俊鹏、周泽奇、翁泓阳、任朋嶓等在内的选手参赛."
After three rounds of men's single qualification stage, Chen Long, Shi Yuqi advanced directly into the final rounds (main draw), including Zhao Junpeng, Zhou Zeqi, Weng Hongyang, Ren Pengbo and other players (translated).

Don't tell me Chen Long and the HK and Macau SAR players decided to skip the final rounds of the main tournament in September of the China National Games. For Chen Long's case, it may be that he's been chosen to skip and rest so that he is fresh for the Sudirman Cup also held in September; besides, he, now age 32, has already competed in several editions of the CNG previously, unlike the much younger 25-year-old Shi Yuqi who sort of can't afford to do so, not senior enough, therefore, not entitled to do so. Just my guess.

Also not forgetting Lu Guangzu, age 24, who is in the main draw of the CNG, so he's in the same situation as SYQ, which makes me think that he and SYQ as MS3 and MS2 respectively in the national team would be fielded in rotation during the Sudirman Cup, leaving Chen Long as MS1 to do duty most of the time. Again, that's just my thought.

As for the HKSAR and MacauSAR players (their absence or last-minute withdrawals), it's possible they might have chosen to give more priority to the Sudirman Cup than the CNG so as not to stretch themselves too thin.

I'm not very sure, but I think the current championships serve as qualifiers for the National Games. Players like Shi Yuqi & Chen Long have already helped their teams qualify for the National Games; as for the individual tournament at the National Games, they may have been given direct entry.

Yes, that's correct, except Shi Yuqi's name is in the main draw but not Chen Long, hence I made those comments above.

Looks like CYF is prepared for this match with Tan Ning, not trying to match her aggressive opponent's in a fast pace attacking game, instead opting for well-placed shots and keep her guessing.

Oh, both retired during the match? Hope not injured or something.

Chen Yufei's precision cross-court drop shots and going for the lines catches Tan Ning full-stretch several times. Remarkable.

Tan Ning's inexperience told, esp in G2, as she struggled to read CYF's game, becoming flustered and error-prone going down tamely 21-12 after dropping G1 21-13 (?).

21-year-old Gu Jun Feng appears to me to be the most impressive and consistent player so far. From the team event up till today he had played at least 6 matches and had not dropped a single game and had not conceded more than 15 points in any game. He beat HYX 11 and 14 today and Wu song Jian 13 and 11 yesterday. let's see how he performs tomorrow.

I think Weng HY could have been unwell or suffered a light injury. I see no reason why he should be fielded as 3rd singles behind Wu Kaian and Wu Songjian in the team final. Could have lost to Bai YP for the same reason in the first round of the individual competition.

LGZ burst GJF's bubble today. Once LGZ tightened his net play he was in control of the rallies, reducing GJF to reactive play all the way to the end.

I guess that's why Lu Guangzu is MS3 in CBA at the moment. Hope to see LGZ make a breakthrough in his career soon as he's already 24 years old. Besides, China needs another top MS to reinforce their strength as Chen Long at age 32 is in the tail end of his career.

As expected the IND Open held 11-16 May is postponed; if not, I believe the CHN contingent would probably withdraw in view of the IND Covid-19 situation spiraling out of control the last couple of weeks with no sign of abating.

As such, I'm afraid Shi Yuqi's quest to improve his ranking in the Race to Tokyo Standing and get a seeding to avoid meeting any of the top few seeds in the early rounds look somewhat uncertain, tricky, as he now has only one remaining tournament to play , the SIN Open in June, to be counted for qualification to the Tokyo OG.
