ClearOne Poco - Sunday mornings

How busy does it get on Sunday mornings (ie. 10am) at ClearOne Poco?

My Sunday group of friends (rec players) are wanting to try it out as it's closer than going to Richmond (ClearOne Leslie). But it says on the website...it's drop-in on Sunday morning (10am-1pm $5). Should I book a court instead (for 6 players)??

Also...any recommendations for a where to eat lunch afterwards??

And any good Bubble Tea/Drinks in the area? (a pre-requisite from the wives)

Thanks,
CD.

Not sure about Sundays but some weeknights are packed. If you guys go and find it too busy, you can
always just book a court on the spot. If you guys are planning for lunch after, your best bet is coquitlam center area.

Yeah, your best bet is around Coquitlam Center area (incl. Henderson Place) for food. For example, there's Pearl Fever for bubble tea; for food, there are Copa Cafe, Westwood Cafe, etc.

There are also many restaurants along Lougheed (within a block or so north and south, as you head towards Coq Ctr) - Boston Pizza, Red Robin, the Keg, White Spot (there're two tho: one closer to PoCo, one closer to Coq Ctr).

Play early in the morning during the summer months will be better. It's a sauna during the summer as there is no air conditioning and there is little insulation to protect the metal roof. Make sure to bring plenty of water to keep hydrated as there is no water fountain, but there are drinks you can buy (although you can get water from the washrooms - .... hmmm). If you book courts, check if the overhead fan can be turned off so it doesn't affect the shuttle flight.

After badminton we normally head back Hwy 7 west to North Road & Lougheed area. There's Bubble World, Pho99, Mui Garden, California Sushi and a wealth of fantastic Korean restaurants. If preferred for something closer, turn left at Mary Hill Bypass, and there is a Wendy's/Tim Hortons about 1 km east.

clearone poco looks to be in the shutdown stage?

A few weeks ago, the gym was reduced to 6 courts from 10, reducing the number of drop in courts available, and this week they removed their newer court mats and replaced them with VERY OLD, worn and slippery mats from the original Richmond ClearOne (I recognized those mats). Also the nets were replaced with old nets with holes and broken strands.

Not a good sign. I jammed my achilles - which just got healed after I snapped it earlier this year, slipping on the worn court mat. I won't be coming back to this place again and I don't think I''m the only one, as it does look like many of the regulars have stopped coming as well.

Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.

That's a pretty crappy move. I guess it's a cost saving measure if the place isn't doing too well. Maybe they're shutting it down.

Which courts get the crappy mats? Court 9 & 10 looks fine. When they cut down the courts to 6, they should have 4 sets of mats that they could replace the old ones at Clearone Leslie with. Could it be the rennovation (putting up that new wall/divider) has damaged the mats? Nets I don't really care as long as it's the correct height, but worn out mats could cause injuries :(

no - the renovation did not damage the mats, these mats are replaced from another center. the logos on the mats are not the same. also these mats are REALLY old! it looks like all the mats got changed.

the mats are slippery - (polished by use and wear) in the center, and the grippy parts are near the sidelines and end court. unfortunately the taped seams are old as well, so there are lots of gluey parts that are exposed, and the connecting seams have lots of open edges. the bottom of our shoes have a layer of old glue that came off from the mat tape.

I think they decided to swap the remaining mats from Clearone poco to Clearone Leslie. Did they recently upgrade the mats at Clearone Leslie?

There were a bunch of rolled up mats last Sunday at Leslie. Not sure if they were from Poco.

Wha!?

They're usually closed Sundays or are they permanently closed?

a bit of ugliness, there was a sign posted on the front door by the property owner saying they had closed the facilities because they were owed $8500 in back rent. nasty.
