Re: Upturned Collars UKP, I take it that you have not yet lost to a person with an upturned collar becasue you still find it hilarious!!
Damn, I was hoping for a cheap strategy of winning by making my opponents laugh so much that they loose. If you cannot win by skill, win by humor. Too bad that strategy is another dud. Ron
another possibility Today I played for abt 2.5 hours, took a hot shower and dressed in clean clothes. When I got home I chanced to look in the mirror and saw my collar turned up. So, maybe a certain percentage of players with upturned collars are just SLOPPY DRESSERS )
well sometime due to the shoulder movements or depending on the material of the collared shirt, the collar do turn up sometime by itself perhaps. I notice this yesterday when I saw one of other player have one side up and one side down while playing.
Comfort I think maybe its just for comfort... I sometimes do it when I wear polo shirts.. I just do it for comfort.. and maybe just maybe confidence.. gives me feeling of an edge sometimes..
lets revisit this topic. some say collar give them an edge but i think it's has both visual and functional benefits. The outfit that dementieva was wearing is derived from the traditional chinese fashion. Yonex might be onto something here with dementieva's outfit. Let me post some traditional chinese women's tops as well for comparison. Coincidence? think not. Wouldn't it be impressive if a woman unpire walks in with that long red gown, sure makes a helluva statement of who's in charge
So that's why Dementieva won- even though her serves were 60mph. She's got the permanent collar up! I gotta try this collar thing, but none of my coolmax shirts have collars! Oh well. Dementieva did look really good though.
Lol I seriously doubt that turning the collar matters in a game. But if some people say it help them win games, I think it's special way to grab a psychological edge like "I got my collar up now, SHOW TIME!" maybe that may boost your adrenaline rush. OR in any case, it may freak out the opponent, like he'll be distracted by your collar like "wtf, why did that guy turn his collar. that looks so bad, omg, why did he do that?!" And he'll lose concentration, and you win.
