Copenhagen Masters 2008?

So, it's Sony Dwi Kuncoro vs Kenneth Jonassen in the MS for today; Adriyanti Firdasari vs Tine Rasmussen in the WS, and 2 MD matches:
Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan vs Michal Logosz/Robert Mateusiak @ 1pm
and Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan vs Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen in the evening session staring @ 7pm.

I think Sony can beat Kenneth, while Kido/Hendra should secure both wins, with more work needed for the second match.

Sigh! First match, Kido/Setiawan lost to Michal Logosz/Robert Mateusiak, 8-21 ; 17-21 in 25 mins.

Hmmm....Kido/Hendra lost in straight sets to Logosz/Mateusiak

7 smash winners for the INA pair vs 19 for the POL pair
If Kido's injury still has yet to heal, I really think they should not have flown to Denmark yet again to play in this invitational tourney :o This will just hamper the preparation for MAS (and pehaps KOR) SS.

were the indonesians playing a fool or what?

Before the tournament started, I already voiced out my concern over their participation in this invitational tourney

Maybe they are just there to enjoy their Christmas holiday. No pressure and no ranking pts. Just receive the money for participation and go home tomorrow.

Yup, they should skip this CM to prepare upcoming MAS SS and defend their title there...

It is fitting that KJ should perform his last match in front of his home crowd.
KJ has always been a great ambassador of Badminton. We will miss him. :crying::crying::crying:

You means KJ is retiring....from international competition.....after this tournament......?

Nope, Kido/Setiawan grabbed MD title in MAS and Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng won KOR SS title this year beat Luluk/Alvent in finale.

Looks like home players will bag all titles this time...

Yeah, the Chinese squad will skip KOR SS and All England become their first SS tournament next year.

As predicted, home shuttlers won all titles and 9th title for Peter Gade, congratz!

hmm.....Wacha retired....wonder what happened to him.....

...Wacha took a dive to retrieve a shot and scraped his racket hand on the floor.

Kido was definitely not at full strength - very few full power smashes.

Unusual was to see WCH faulted twice for hitting the ceiling - I've never come across this before at an international tournament. He was not at all pleased.

Anyone notice a drift in this hall?- Pi Hongyan chose to receive at the LH end even though she won the toss against XH, so I think she was choosing to hit into the drift. BTW fellas, she was at this tourney with her BF...sorry!

Special guest in the audience on finals day was Camilla Martin, and there were also presentations to retiring Danish players Martin Lungaard, Jens Erikson and Kenneth Jonassen as well as Danish National Coach Stig Pedersen. Tine Rasmussen won player of the year award which, so my Danish speaking friend told me, is worth all of £1000...embarrassing if this is true.

Keep an eye out for Mak/Teo, and it's worth trying to get to see Firdisari playing - a natural around the court reminiscent of Susi Susanti.

Another nice event to attend, although I did find myself occasionally wishing the old scoring system was still in use, but let's no go there for now...

Best wishes,

Smautf
