Entry List of DUTCH Open GP 2011

Wow, Europe's finest + Thailand . I think I will give it a big fat miss and go on vacation a bit longer instead :D. Glad I didn't buy the early bird tickets :p. Since all entries run through BWF now the organisation can't even leak any early participant's names ... MAS 2nd tier all withdrew as well.

The curse of Demark Open "Premier" status ...

Did you expect China, Korea and Malaysia to send their A-teams to a European GP???

demolidor, do I hear you complaining about Having some European players and Thailand, when you know fine well, that my tournament is "only" an international challenge event, and is also in the same week as the China Open, Malaysia International Challenge, and other events, therefore the chances of seeing a top 30 player unlikely. And the chances of seeing any Asian players, or "good" Danish players unlikely as well.

Looks like I will be stuck with the Danish rejects + Europes 2nd choice, and that's going to be it. Who knows, if I enter I might make the main draw, due to lack of entries

I certainly expected more in an Olympic qualifying year. Despite the low GP status, which means less than it used to of course, they have done pretty well. With a few exceptions practically the whole Japanese team was there last year ... Ahsan/Septano, Ahmad/Natsir had entered but withdrew with a few more INA players but Marissa/Melati were there (briefly :D)
This must be the weakest field in years, there aren't even qualifying rounds for doubles. But at least it's Thailand's A-squad and practically India's and the field is quite evenly matched which should deliver plenty of tight matches but there are no/few names that stand out (/ I haven't seen before). I mean Boonsak is there and Sudket but for the rest it practially looks like the Internationals of the last few weeks. Danes and Brits don't even send their 2nd tier. But ofcourse it is more appealing to go for the GP Gold Bitburger afterwards ...

Speaking of which, Bitburger has moved back in the calendar compared to previous years to now become the tail end of GP-SSP-SS-GPG where last year it was just GP-SS-SS. I guess the SS-GPG at the end would make an interesting combo for some noteable absentees ...

I guess those years of not handing out trophies to the winners has finally caught up ;). None of last year's winners have returned to defend ...

it is more due to the BWF scheduling. top players will prefer to go to Denmark SSP and then French SS. going to Dutch will be too long and tiring for them.

/rant :D

Yes and more specifically now scheduling the GP Gold behind it were it wasn't before. The lack of doubles entries must be a direct consequence of the Olympic qualification rules that make it pretty much impossible to qualify ...
Probably worthwile to investigate who exactly most of these TPE players are ;) (the SIN and IND names at least look familiar. A few were there last year but didn't progress very far.
[h=2]Hsiao Ma Pai was there but think she had the flu so not in the best condition ...[/h]

Perhaps a crosscheck to see if any of the IND squad were participating in the last WJC might turn up something interesting ...
