football season 2010/2011

Something several days old - first read it on RAWK.

Dutch club VVV-Venlo sign 1-year-old child

YouTube videos have led to a number of footballers getting signed by clubs around the world, but this might be the first time it's worked for an 18-month-old. It's very much a publicity stunt, but the popular YouTube clip of young Baerke van der Meij kicking balls into his toy chest caught the attention of relegation-threatened Dutch top flight club VVV-Venlo and prompted the club to sign him to a 10-year professional contract. Though, it is made clear that the contract is a "symbolic" one.

From the Telegraph:-

"The toddler joined VVV's star midfielder Ken Leemans during a training session in De Koel Stadium on Tuesday before being offered the "symbolic" contract."

"The toddler's favourite position has not yet been determined. However, we can speak of a right-footed player with a very good kicking technique, perseverance and, importantly: football genes via his grandfather," said a VVV Venlo press release.

Baerke's grandfather used to play for the club and his family still lives in the city of Venlo.

As silly as this whole thing is, VVV-Venlo really did a great job of selling it, even going so far as to have the little boy attend a press conference and sign a contract. Well, scribble on one, anyway. Here are some pictures from the event.

Between the fauxhawk, the runny nose, and the satisfied look on his face, I'd say little Baerke has a bright future ahead of him.

Of course, Arsenal has long been the subject of jokes about signing young players, so we'll have to wait and see how it reacts to seeing an 18-month-old signed by another club. Someone is probably trying to figure out how to have a fetus sign a contract right now.
Man, that club must be out of their mind!

Manchester United fans can bring out the bubblies now.

Sorry Fernando, no medal this season either.

It is a crucial game after all and at the point of the season every team needs their most important players.

Recent signing Everton fan Chris Foy failed to impress at the Emirates but is expected to improve next season.

Sorry, but FT is most likely going to get his medal!

Frankly, I'd like the Wednesday boys and Ipswich to get back in a few years time and dominate ;). Don't worry about the money issue, it'll be taken care of:D.

I know you love your Man U. No worries there. You side with them and we side with ours. It's healthy competition, I thought you would agree (even with the accompanying drama sometimes);).

lol
its not about love= =
i like to see fast and furious football
hehe
arsenal vs man utd recent match is one of the good and exciting match
the thing i dont like is that when some club cant win, fans start to excuse on referee, umpire,fa,bookies or want so ever
lol,of course i prefer more exciting and competitive match
who want to see man utd vs schalke which might be 10-0 if their goal keeper is not on superb form
boring

You are contradicting yourself. If Schalke's keeper was not in superb form to keep the scoreline respectful, would you have stayed to watch that the match may end up 10-0? Haha.

Oohhh... don't tempt me... I have a list of some very damning evidence of referee bias towards Le Mancs - and did I say 'list'? Even the Guardian or was it the Telegraph wrote some article on this a couple of years ago...

Every team up there gets it once in a while - undeserved slice of good luck or referees caving into pressure - heck even my team Liverpool gets it some times. However, the major difference here is that the number of notable incidents that favour the Salford far outnumbers those given to the other three teams combined. Even my Man Utd supporting friend admits that they get lucky most of the time and instead of feeling guilty about it, laughs about in my face and causing my blood pressure to spike...

I'm not that petty to keep on about this - strong focus on other teams which is not their own and obsession on Man Utd is the trait of an Everton supporter - but the refereeing bias down the years towards the Red Devils is very evident, if not clear to the naked eye.

I had a dig on the same thing above regarding their new player Chris Foy unveiled at the Emirates last week - watch the game again and see if you think my joke has no basis. Arsenal still won at the end which is all that matters, but that's besides the point. The referee had a shocker (or blinder, depending on who you support) of a game.

It's the Telegraph mate but I'm sure The Guardian tread along those lines too. True, regarding bias towards Man U as it is with NBA's (big market) LA Lakers.

yawn
anyway,still one point needed
looking forward for cl final

1st goal, the ball is out of the line but referee didnt call and passed and score
2nd goal, hernandez is clearly aware that robinson gonna reach the ball so he kick the ball away and fall down after the contact with robinson

lol
still, man utd won the 19th title

Blackburm vs Man Utd match, from 83rd minutes onwards, the worst football. Shame on them.

Yup, Blackburn never touched the ball, or made the effort to. I wonder if they were aware that Blackpool was winning 4-3 and Wolves 3-1, thereby closing the gap on them. Results can still work against Blackburn, even more so if Wolves beats them on the final weekend. They'll have deserved their demotion if that's the case.
