Fu Haifeng & Cai Yun Split?

Guo Zhendong/Xu Chen (not Chen Xu) have been paired up as early as 2 years ago when Team CHN is trying to find a good 2nd pair for the Olympics, before they settle on Guo Zhendong/Xie Zhongbo.

Thats true...I think Zhong Bo is the boss
I saw the entry list for China Open 2 ( provided by Leonard)

Guo Xen Dong/Chen Xu:eek:
Fu Hai Feng/Cai Yun
He Hanbin/Su Jun Jie
Liu Xiao Lung/Chai Biao ( future pair..both tall but still raw..both have great smash)
Shen Ye/Li Tian
Xie Zhong Bo/Zheng Bo:eek:
I can't believe Xie Zhongbo and Zheng Bo are being paired

Anyway, why on earth is Zheng Bo being returned to MD?

Guo Xen Dong/Chen Xu was paired together back in 2006. I think they got to the QF or SF of the 2006 HKO and lost Hendra S/Markis K.

I don't see anything wrong with Zheng Bo playing MD because he was once the Junior MD Champion with Sang Yang. But both him and Xie are dominant back players so I'm interested who's going to get killed.

China is really looking for the next MD's pair. I guess they finally notice that Fu/Cai is not going to be in there for long. Fu maybe, but Cai is getting to that age.

Also seems a strange combination to me - neither are much good at the net

Maybe they just give up on ZB and ran out of combinations.

Sounds like..

..this is a pairing of the "Unwanted Men's Doubles players"...or perhaps, this partnership will force either or both players to give up their rear/back court game and improve on their net/front court game..:cool:

Btw, should this thread be in the Professional Players' sub-forum/section??..

I think the Chinese badminton team has a very wrong strategy for the Chinese MD players. As we all know, Chinese MD has not been very strong at all compared with the other MD powerhouses such as Indonesia, Korean, Malaysia and even Denmark. But they are being sent to the toughest tournaments such as super series and grand prix gold directly. look at other nations being mentioned here, their MD players always start their international competitions from the lower-level tournaments first. They usually play at that level for 1-2 years at least to gain the experience and confidence befor beng sent to tougher tournaments. In contrast, The poor Chinese MD players competes against the best players in the world at the very beginning and lose most of the time. I think they will not just lose the game but also the confidence in themselves.

The other thing is that most of them do not get many chances to play internationally at all. Maybe only 2-3 tournaments a year. A very promising MD player named Zhang Wei quits the Chinese national team this year just because of little chance to play internationally, only training, training all year long...

And they change partner so quickly. I know they are trying to find good partnerships. but for each partnership, you have to give it some reasonable time to really tell if they work or not, not just a couple of tournaments.

I think all these needs to be changed so china can produce better MD teams.

Perfect example

If that's so, it's quite strange to put him in with Fu Haifeng
Haifeng is a great smasher alright but he's the weak link when defending!

i believe the strategy is to produce a better MD team, but also to teach Cai Yun and Fu Hai Feng something too...maybe Fu needs to pick up the slack moreso in defending, nowthat he's with a weaker partner in defence...and Cai Yun will need to set up better for Xu Chen because he doesn't have quite the power Fu Hai Feng does...so when they come back together as a pair, Cai/Fu will be quite formidable...:D;):p just my take...He Han Bin/Sun Jun Jie seem to have some chemistry for a 3rd string pair...maybe 2nd string potential...but Xie Zhong Bo/Zheng Bo's gunna be monster :eek::eek: look for some powerful attacks and them to bulldoze over some defences ;):p:D however, the weak point would be...who's in charge? since both are used to the XD roles...IMO Zheng Bo/Xie Zhong Bo should both continue to play doubles as it'll help them develop stronger tactical and defensive roles in XD, same as Zhang Ya Wen etc...Gao Ling always played WD, so why not Zheng Bo?:p:D
