i want to address the recent unrest that sprouted out in different discussions in the forum. BadmintonCentral started as a small humble website. in the beginning, a group of badminton affectionate gathered together to talk about the sport we love, badminton. since the number of members were small, everybody discussed in a harmonious manners. BC thus thrived to be one of the most respected site on badminton. fast forward a few years, BC have grown so big we are now composed of a amazingly diverse group of Badminton fans. diversity also comes at a cost, conflicts are more common due to differences in belief as well as differences in communication styles. despite so, our values and standards still holds. we want to see rational, respectful and well mannered discussions in BC. if you want to voice your disagreement, then do it in a polite way. if you use harsh words, the moderators will absolutely not tolerate it. we have banned upwards of 20 members in the past few weeks for directly insulting other members. if you tell us that's the way you are, then i am afraid you are not fit for this community. having said that, 99% of the members are well mannered. only the 1% bad oranges spoils it for the rest of us. so: - think before you post. - write your post in a mature, rational, and polite way. - read your message and ask yourself if you want to be in the receiving end of it. - respect each other's viewpoint, only then will they respect yours. and lastly: - write in proper English, and English only.
To add to Kwun's; It is okay to disagree (that's how we learn about our differences) but it's how the disagreement was presented/voiced that most likely caused the conflict. Basically do not get personal. If person A voiced a different belief/opinion, then disagree with that belief/opinion NOT the person themselves. We have a lot of things in common with the most basic one being our love of badminton whether we are from N. Am, S. Am, Europe, Asia, Africa, or Australisasia
..hmm, actually it's often times called Oceania...hehe Anyways, yah, concur with you(and Kwun) there. We just have to *watch* that "boundary"..
I do agree 100%. I think we take for granted of the things that we have and we forget what BCBF has blessed us. Its has definately provide us with information plus friendships without boundaries. An in that we have to respect what the site and what the members have to offer each other. Let us enjoy/promote Badminton, encourage the members , learn from each other and be happy.
I would like to add a bit of suggestion as well. OFF TOPIC DISCUSSIONS : I know it's very hard to have a perfect thread. A perfect thread is one that every posts are related to the Title of the thread, doesn't matter if it is positive or negative posts. But, at least, please think again before clicking "Submit Post". In addition, if you read a post that is totally unrelated to the topic, try not to add more posts. It will just make the thread very un-interesting to read, total turn off. What I always do when I come across a post that is already out of topic and I diagree with it and would like to voice my opinion, I normally would send the person a PM. If you still believe that the post is very offending and shouldn't exist, you may try to lodge a "Bad Post". There is a small tringular shape icon below each post that you can click and request the particular post be deleted permanently. I am pretty sure Kwun and the moderators will take into consideration when someone reported a bad post. Thanks for reading.
People is the key for a community. More good ppl, a community grows in a positive and healthy way. A few more "bad rat", it can just make the whole thing to be way more un-pleasent. Let's all watch ourselves, think twice before posting, especially with some hot debatable topics.

I'm absolutely agreed with you this time... I sincerely hope that the members here will be kind enough coz not all are from the same age group... Grown-ups and the younger generation dont think the same and kindly point us to a right direction if u disagree with something

frankly speaking i find BC forums one of the most pleasant forums i've been to. Maybe we can ascribe this to the fact that most of us are mature grownups(or semi grownups), who gather because we love Bad-Min-Ton. so keep it up!
I sure hope it's not about me... I know I have been pretty nasty in the past one year or so with sarcasm but... but... I tried to be nice... at least I tried. It's the effort that counts, yea?
How about language moderators? Ok, I'm not talking about people, who write english with mistakes, because their knowledge is lacking as it is not their native language. I'm talking about younger generation whose native language is english, but to read their posts, it is more of an engrish. E.g. """ if the opponent has forced u to clear, it means tht ur opponent has given u enuf trouble to make u desperate fr sme time. u can surely expect a gud smash or a gud drop coming """ Try to be polite to other readers, not acquainted with ghetto slang. Write in a more normal way, or ask a friend of yours to translate for you And the example above is just an example, not a finger pointing and crucifiction. I'm not trying to be a grammar Nazi, as I have always had problems with grammar, but the contingent in this forum is too versatile to use slang of this kind. *Uh-oh*, let me sit down and rest for a while, 30 years are weighing heavily on my shoulders When I was much younger age, steam engined ships were still the bleeding edge of technology ...
This point has been made before, but it bears repeating: Where you disagree with someone, please confine your argument to the subject and do not indulge yourself in a personal attack. Many people, because they are unable to construct a powerful argument, rely on attacking the person instead. This is bad for several reasons: It is a feeble form of argument; It is hurtful to the other person; It damages the thread, making it difficult to continue the discussion in more edifying ways; And it promotes bitterness and sniping in future threads. Sometimes we even develop a regular pair of duelists here at BC I have occasionally been guilty of this behaviour; I hope I shall not be so again. Yet, as others have said, this is in general an unusually respectful and harmonious internet community. Sometimes it's just helpful to remember why you come here, and that personal grudges against people on the internet are really rather pathetic, not to mention a big waste of your time

i sincerely wish i will not be one of those who are not welcomed here. i love it here. and i have exchanged ideas and gained knowledge along the way. lets try to make it a reality for all our sakes.
