I'm Not Dead! 11-12
Hey guys, I know it's been a while. Life has been busy, outside of badminton as my career has become a bit more involved (in a good way.)
Since my last update:
- Took a week off in Mexico city (work related travels)
- Am cleared from Physical therapy!
- Have yet to lose the 10-15 pounds I got from not training in September
- experienced what private lessons are like when your coach speaks the same language as you, so feel I learned a lot there
- In/overcoming a mentality slump (some wouldn't call it this)
Slump
This slump I'm calling it has only been going on for a few days, and may not really even be a slump by some peoples definitions. Regardless, I noticed that lately I've been really frustrated with my game, and not getting as much pleasure from training as I used to. THere' been many times in Thailand where I'm tired or didn't want to show up to practice, but this feeling seemed different - almost a true dread.
Could be burn out, who knows. COuld also be that after I beat Ben, my friend from back home, I didn't have a goal that pushed me as much as the thought of beating him did. Working wth my coach, I've been trying to mentally reframe myself to win smaller goals - reduce serve errors, good contact point, things I can directly control. Instead of worrying about points, which are sometimes out of your control.
It's been working and yesterday was actually a good day for once, but we'll see.
As for gameplay footage below are some singles matches:
at 45:40
at 47:14
starting at 10:51 (a buch of single one set to 21)
I def am beginning to feel that the physical is holding me back but technically feel am improving as I am getting better at flatter lifts, being more aggressive on serves, etc. One thing I'd like to focus coming up is faster drops, after I cement the contact point.
Malaysia Soon? Hopefully
I originally was planning to stay in Raleigh until end of decemebr but the wonderlust in me plus general loneliness is getting to me - only person here I know is my girlfriend and a friend from home who also came up here before me to train!
I've always wanted to go to Tactical badminton but wasn't able to due to COVID but now seems it is possible:
- Starting nov 29th, vaccinated people from Singapore are able to go to Malaysia via land border.
- Singapore has no quarantine now.
SOOOO my thinking is go to Singapore for 2 weeks to just explore the place and do a light offseason, and then travel to Malaysia via the land border and start trading with Coach Andrew @ Tactical. I talked with him yesterday about this on Whatsapp and he said that would be fine with him. So now gotta see if that is legally/ technically possible. If so, I'll probably make my way there around mid December and celebrate Xmas in Singapore lol.
That's it for now guys
