Hi guys , According to this law , Is it okay for a player to remove his shirt as a celebration after the umpire calls "Game" ? Note : I have a video regarding this, but I don't know how I can upload it here!
The intention of the law is to avoid players intimidating their opponent. That's kinda moot after the end of the match. So assuming this is the last game and there is no challenge, after the umpire calls Game, players are free to celebrate by screaming or removing their shirt. Emotional display after a match is great for the sport and has no bearing on the result of the game, so it does not need to be regulated except that we don't want our players to be bad role models, e.g. destroying rackets or other equipment, disdaining opponents or so.
It may not be against the Laws, but sponsors take a dim view of it - the post-game closeups are when their logos get some nice, juicy exposure... (It was made a yellow card offence in football in 2004... wonder why )
In those days they had dual layer shirts which took ages to get back on again, especially when soaked with sweat. The rule was to prevent delays of the game
Just adding on to this, the player must put on a shirt after (whether it be the one they took off, or a new one), before marching off court.
I think laws in badminton are more often applied with common sense. If the game is over, then removal of shirt surely is acceptable for male players. Removal of pants however, despite not written there, is not acceptable.
