Yes, you're right. Which makes LXR's injury even much more career ending, I'm afraid. Especially for a singles player who has to cover the whole court. Has there been any singles (or doubles) shuttler male or female who has successfully returned to their previous professional level after such an injury and surgery and rehab? Certainly WX had the same injury and never returned...
Meniscus injury is not that serious, right? I think Xue Song suffered the same. Anyone heard anything new from Xue Song?
You might like to pay her a visit if you speak Mandarin, even if you don't. Perhaps her surgery was somewhere else and she's at Augsburg for rehabilitation? The article only says she at Augsburg for medical treatment. On her weibo(microblog), LXR updated her situation: Thank you all my friends for your concern...I'm doing fine now...no need to send me things...no need to worry about me...I can eat, sleep and drink Only thing I worry is...will I put on weightbecause I feel so hungry every day...Mama also says I must control my diet...Hope I don't turn into a fatty
The operation was a success!! Yeah!! http://sports.qq.com/a/20160830/030737.htm http://sports.qq.com/a/20160830/030247.htm Note: 1. She had operation on both ACL and meniscus. 2. It was the same hospital which Wang Xin and Wang Lin went to. Many footballer received treatments there as well: Podolski, Per Mertesacker, David Odonkor and Kevin Kurányi.
Unfortunately ACL tear is quite severe and devastating. I don't recall any badminton pro player, male or female, singles or doubles, recovering from this injury and being able to return to their previous level despite reconstruction and rehab. Wang Xin? Wang Lin? Nope.
Wang Lin did return and also managed to beat elite players but i think she was injured again. Also, it was said that she couldn't play as well as she used to play because of the psychological aspect of the injury. It was always in the back of her mind while playing.
Four years ago, it was Wang Xin. Four years later, it is LXR . Both are my favorites. I am speechless. I should keep my mouth shut when the next Olympic arrives.
Actually, it was foolishly stubborn of LXR to continue playing to the end of the match after her injury. She should have just ended it right there. As it was, she very likely made the injury worse by most likely extending the tears in the ACL and the meniscus. I thing it was in a post match interview that she said that she doesn't back down easily and never wants to show any weakness to her opponents.
What I don't really get yet - ACL tears in all variations are almost standard injuries for skiing and soccer pros. For them, it takes about 6 months of rehab and they are back in training and normally reach their previous level pretty quickly again. Just look at Lindsey Vonn - two ACL injuries in a row and then being back on top a couple of months later. What makes it so different for badminton players that an ACL injury means an almost certain end of ones career?
You made a good point. She's being careless, even reckless, trying to uphold her indomitable spirit by going down fighting and could've inadvertently aggravated her ACL and meniscus tears. I worry two severe injuries( the previous was a leg fracture) in her relatively still young career could create a phobia in her when she resume competition one day, just like what happened to Wang Lin's successive ACL injuries.
Not sure. My guess is in skiing they can still wear a pretty solid brace for support and protection. In soccer, it's just running and turning, whereas in badminton, I think the problem is with jumping and then landing, especially the worst one is completing the jump out round the head shot on the non racket side. Which is where the injury always occur, see WX, WL, and now LXR.
Most likely career ending. If I am her opponent. I will remind her of her injury by hitting to her backhand baseline again and again.... the fear will set it. WSX and WYH must be saing, damn; I can't retire now. Honeymoon delayed.
WSX is going back to school in September. Her putative marriage with Chen Long is not "on the agenda yet". http://sports.qq.com/a/20160831/036400.htm
According to weibo, she'll be discharge from the hospital tomorrow Sent from my SM-J111F using Tapatalk
Looking at the time frame, it seems she wouldnt have had time to go back to China to pick up her clothes. Can you imagine her in Rio saying "I have a serious knee injury. I need to go home and pick up my clothes first...."
Good point. Is it the money (or lack of it) in the sport a significant factor in motivating an athlete for a comeback ?
