Lin Dan upset after his marriage registration photos leaked on Internet By CHOW HOW BAN BEIJING: Photos of badminton star Lin Dan and long-time girlfriend Xie Xingfang registering their marriage surfaced on the Internet yesterday. The Olympic and Asiad champion, who had not responded to mounting rumours of his marriage with the former Chinese national women’s singles player, was put on the spot by the leak of the photos. The photos showed that Lin Dan and Xingfang signed the marriage documents at the Haizhu district marriage registration centre in Guangzhou on Monday. The southern Chinese city is the hometown of Xingfang. Local media reports said that Lin Dan did not return together with his team-mates to their training base in Beijing on Monday from Hong Kong where they competed in the season-ending Super Series tournament but went for his marriage registration instead. When approached by reporters at the training grounds, Lin Dan was apparently upset over the exposure of the photos. After his training, he made a phone call and told the press that he and Xingfang would not comment on their marriage for the time being. “I just feel that our marriage registration is a personal matter and we did not want to announce it early. “It is not the right time to do so,” Lin Dan was quoted by qq.com as saying. Last week, local media reported that Lin Dan and Xingfang would tie the knot soon. They quoted Lin Dan’s mother as saying that he had submitted his application for marriage to the Liberation Army. Lin Dan is a soldier and it is compulsory for an officer to apply for marriage.
Who will answer a dumb Westerner's questions? What is the usual process with Chinese marriages? Will LD and XXF have to wait for "permission" to be granted now that they've made their application? Or is it just a simple bureaucratic formality? Do couples usually wait for awhile from application to ceremony? Or does the act of application mean the ceremony is imminent? Sorry for all the questions, but this upcoming marriage is so much more interesting than Kate and Prince William.
Just get a marrigage certificate then you are married. Most people will have a wedding after that or before that. People in some small village may only have a wedding without bother to obtain a certficate. LD is a little different. He is a millitary guy and needs permission. It's that different from Canada.

(i'll reply it here).. ..actually there were mixed articles/news about him planning to "marry" XXF before the 2012OG; i read some news reported he would wait after the 2012; some reported he would marry XXF before the 2012OG..well, apparently it's going to be both cases after all (civil court marriage before 2012OG and then perhaps the celebration after 2012OG).. Congrats to LD and XXF.. As for master Fidget's query, yes, as of now LD and XXF are "officially" by law, husband & wife..And in Asia/eastern culture, they also could get a civil marriage certificate before or after the actual "ceremony"/celebration.. i guess they're there just to get a marriage license recorded in civil office (as is common in western countries); of course, their official celebration will probably come later..
