I think the other issue is the Entry Fee is quite pricey ....plus the distance (Gas price is rather expensive now) .... it actually could be keys determinant to the draw of the crowd.

Comparing to the BAY Area Open which draws an average of 250 - 300 players everytime they hold the tourney, i kind of wonder as to why in the down south tourneys we have not seen that kind of number in any tournaments at all. Is it because we dont have enough players in the south or what ???

Yes, the entry fee was very expensive...we have plenty of players in the south. :p

But where are all those hard core fan who always play in SGVBC until am 2 - 3 am. It seems to me they almost never play at Open tourneys ....

I have seen lots of good players (street players) but they are raw talents who are capable of playing excellent badminton even w no proper training. They hardly participate in the USA Badminton sanctioned event .... do you know roughly why ???

Who you calling a "street player"?! ...Oh wait, that's what I am. :p

And we don't play until 2-3am, we play until 3-4am, get it right. :p :D

    Why? Lots of reasons:

    1) Some go to church on Sunday

    2) Some have family obligations

    3) Some play for fun, not for glory

    4) Some don't like tourney formats/the wait, your whole weekend is gone

    5) Some don't feel they are good enough to play :p

    6) Some only want to play a few matches, not potentially 5-6 matches that can last all day/weekend: physically too demanding

    7) Entry fees cost a lot these days :p

    8) I'm sure there are many more reasons that are time and commitment related.

Thanks for the feedback, DInk...... i see it they are all legitimate reasons ......
It is just too bad and sad to see cause in northern cal, people who already retired from badminton still come out to support the sport they play even they know that their glory days are over e.g. Ben Lee, Stanley Wu, Kevin Yang, Jin Song, etc..... and esp the highschoolers, they know if they meet one of the USA Badminton Players they will get toasted but they still come out and take up the challenge to find out where they take as compared to our BOB (best of the best). So i dont know what to say .... perhaps players up there have more itch for tournaments than players down south ....just my 2 cents.

COngratulations to Eva Lee of OCBC for winning a triple crown (1st Pl in WS, WD, MX) in the recent Dave Freeman tournament in San Diego. She basically dominated all the events. Also for Raju Rai to get the double crown in MS & MD.

Congratulations to other OCBC players as well for the job well done.

Fu & Cai were too strong this time for Tony and Howard this time around...oh well, there's always next time. :)

Hello Harimau, it was great to meet you too at SAC. I would never have known it was you until I saw your daughter Claudia from the stands. I was telling my double's partner, Tommy, "I know that girl from somewhere." Then it hit me, she, Yannie and Ants are the most photographed individuals on BC. :D

Way too late Dink.....the deadline was on Mar 7, 06.
Maybe next time around if you are interested. I heard Don Van is playing with Randy Hsia in double event, while Randy will play mix event with CHeryl CHow. Go ...go... our future champion...... the more tournaments they play they more experience they get .....

It should be posted under www.tournamentsoftware.com by Thursday evening or Wednesday nite. The draw is quite small .....i heard it is like less than 60 players.....

yah, the draw is quite small, but quite interesting as i can see a few SGVBC players participating...didn't see Tony or Halim participating..But Howard and Bob will strut their stuff as a new pair for the first time..:)
BTW, just wondering, do you know if this tournament will use the new 21-pt under-trial scoring system or the normal scoring system..

Such small draw, looks like a local tournament.

Hardly anyone from east coast coming to this tournament.

I guess the OCBC players scared everyone away at the Boston Open.

Seems tournament participation is getting lower and lower.:(
