Team PAW scoring and standing Thank you very much Sandy, for putting your thoughts on this matter and coming out with such a neat and fair solution to the Team PAWs. Indeed the experience in the PAW competition that you gained with your software configuration has enabled you to do this in such a quick and decisive manner. I think this is great and fellow team PAWers will certainly join me in saying a BIG THANK YOU TO SANDY for adding yet another interesting facet to the PAW game. We can expect the Team results to be as prompt as the individual results.
Aye Sandy, thank you too for the great efforts you've put in. These PAW you're organising are what makes BC so much fun. And thank you Loh for coming up with the Team ideas ! And all this because Hau-ge thought the L from Loopy was for Loser, and subsequently all the L users like Loh and Louisa We should make a history on how WoW was born ^_^
ur welcome I didn't want to build Team's standing manually, so I need a few my "stolen" time to create a little addition "tool" in my PAW's Ranking program. Usually it's harder in early season but will be easier in the next season. The Team's standing will be as fast as Individual's standing.
WOW Team!!! Surely, We must not allow the Dream Team to continue dreaming. We need to knock some sense into them! However, We can allow the MAD to continue to go MAD, MADDER, MADDEST!
Ooooh Loooopy! You're gonna make us proud very soon! I can't forget your ingenious idea to shorten the PAW entries by the "Fill in the blank ( ) Method" which makes PAWing so much easier and lots more fun! As a team, I'm proud to say that the WOW Team has made its modest contributions. Perhaps you could do a writeup on our history. Yes, to a certain extent, the challenges and sometimes insidious mocking from our friendly competitors, made our Team all the more determined to fight back with good strategies and ideas to add more spice to an already overwhelmingly popular and entertaining game. Certainly we can do more!
I know you must be thinking how on earth do I find so much time posting in BC when I should be working? Yes you're right, I'm 'working' from Mon - Fri, 9 am - 5.00pm. (5-day week ) But I'm working as a 'self-employed' remisier or what is commonly known in Singapore and Malaysia as a stock broking dealer. If I'm not wrong the word 'remisier' is a French word for a "commissioned agent". How such a French word should come to our shores so many decades ago and remained to this day is very interesting and warrants some research into. (Perhaps it has to do with Singapore's eminent position as a trading post to traders far and wide and inevitably the French must have been one of the dominant players then.) Many people from outside this region I talked to do not understand the meaning until I told them I work as a stock dealer or if they are still blur I will say "stock broker". Yes I work as a commisioned agent in a big local stock-broking company which has close to 1,000 remisiers and salaried dealers. I have my own clients which I brought in myself and 'many inactive clients' given to me by my company. I don't have to pay for most of the things supplied by my compay, including the rent for my table space ("my office" ) and computer, research and office back-up facilities. I paid for them indirectly through the commissions (or brokerage) that I earned whenever my client makes a trade (either by buying or selling securities). The company takes 60% and I pocket the remainder of 40%. So for every dollar of brokerage, I get 40 cents and the company, 60 cents. So far I did not get the sack, which means that I survived all these years whatever the market condition. You may probably know that ever since the mortgage lending market (or sub-prime mortgage) in the US burst towards end-2007, the stock markets around the world went into disarray and high volatility continues to rule. Singapore is not spared as our big local banks were also caught in the ADOs created by the US and European financial houses. So, here I am today managing to do only one deal for my client and having the rest of my working day indulging in BC amusement. I can't really complain because as an uncle, I should be 'retired' and not having to work. That was an old concept during my father's time. Nowadays you need to work in Singapore to make sure you are not penniless and having to rely on charity to go on living! Furthermore, the income, no matter how low, helps to supplement my desire to travel overseas to watch badminton live! See you in Jakarta this May for the TC/UC confrontations. Or come August, in Beijing for the Olympic Games! Cheers to BC!
ah, i always thought market volatility was good news for remisiers. it's times when the market is stagnant that you need to worry about.
Not when your clients have been burnt not long ago and now have learnt their lessons. Unfortunately, or actually fortunately, my clients are no big gamblers otherwise the brokerage I earned will not be enough to cover the losses that they may incur. You see, the negative side of being a remisier is that he has to guarantee his company all of his client's losses. During bad times, not a few remisiers have gone bankrupt, not because they dabbled in the stock market and lost, but more so because of their client's losses.
that goes with the territory i guess. it's all this risk vs reward thing again ... very rarely can you expect to make huge gains without taking huge risks, and vice-versa.
