PAW (PICK-A-WINNER): INTRODUCTION
The game was adopted from WTA forum and currently active and the most popular game in WTA & ATP forums.
Thank's to Simon (England) as The Founder of the game.
The rules are simple:
Just pick the winners of any 28 Single's Main Draw matches (R-32 to Final, both MS & WS) and Double Main Draw (Quarter Final to Final for MD, WD & XD)
You choose the matches and you pick the winners. You get more points for picking low-ranked winners than for picking high-ranked winners.
Example
The Fixtures and Scoring Points:
NO.[..] MT101: [ ]Lin.Dan..... v [ ]T.Hidayat...(. 7 - 15 ) delete [ ]
NO.[..] MT102: [ ]K.Jonassen.. v [ ]Kendrick.Lee(. 7 - 15 ) delete [ ]
NO.[..] MT103: [ ]Peter.Gade.. v [ ]Eric.Pang...(. 7 - 14 ) delete [ ]
NO.[..] MT104: [ ]Yu.Chen..... v [ ]D.Palyama...(. 8 - 12 ) delete [ ]
NO.[..] MT105: [ ]Kay.Bin.Yeoh v [ ]Andrew.Smith( 11 - 9 .) delete [ ]
The numbers after the fixtures are the Scoring Points. These are the respective points you score for picking each player. So if you pick LIN to beat HIDAYAT and LIN wins then you score 7 points.
But if you pick HIDAYAT to win and HE wins then you score 15 points. Of course, if you pick HIDAYAT and he loses you score nothing at all.
Your Picks:
NO.[01] MT101: [ ]Lin.Dan..... v [X]T.Hidayat...(. 7 - 15 ) delete [ ]
NO.[02] MT103: [X]Peter.Gade.. v [ ]Eric.Pang...(. 7 - 14 ) delete [ ]
NO.[03] MT105: [X]Kay.Bin.Yeoh v [ ]Andrew.Smith( 11 - 9 .) delete [ ]
NO.[04] MT104: [X]Yu.Chen..... v [ ]D.Palyama...(. 8 - 12 ) delete [ ]
(Since you are limited to 28 matches in the tournament, in an actual game you may choose to 'pass' on some of these matches.)
The Results:
(Results from Malaysia Open 2007)
LIN, Dan.(1)....... bt HIDAYAT, Taufik.... 21-19, 23-21
You picked HIDAYAT so you score nothing.
GADE, Peter.(3).... bt PANG, Eric.......... 22-20, 21-11
You picked GADE so you score 7.
YEOH, Kay Bin...... bt SMITH, Andrew...... 21-16, 12-21, 21-17
You picked YEOH so you score 11.
CHEN, Yu.(8)....... bt PALYAMA, Dicky..... 20-24, 21-14, 22-20
You picked CHEN YU so you score 8.
So from those four matches you would have scored a total of 7 +11 + 8 = 26points.
The player with the most points at the end of the tournament is the winner.
A 'league table' is maintained in the PAW thread throughout.
How to Play
Just go to the PAW thread in the tournament forum, study the Fixtures and Scoring Points and name your picks. The Fixtures and Scoring Points will appear when the First Round draw is made.
Rules
1. The 28 matches you choose can be from ANY rounds in the main draw. I just need to receive your picks before the matches begin. (For instance, you might choose 10 First Round Matches, 6 Second Round matches, 2 Quarter Finals, both Semis and the Final. Or you could choose 12 First Round matches and the Final.)
The only stipulation is that you may not make all of your picks in the same round.
EXCEPTIONS: For both 64-draw tournaments for Men's Single's Women's Single's you are allowed 33 picks, for one 64-draw one 32-draw tournaments you are allowed 30 picks and for 16-draw tournaments on both category you are allowed only 20 picks.
2. You get more points for picking low-ranked players than for picking high-ranked players. So for each of your selected matches you can choose to go for a longshot or to play it safe.
3. The Scoring Points for each Fixture will be posted at the top of the PAW thread when the fixtures are known.
4. To play you just need to specify 28 winners over the course of the event. There are no 'Commitments' - anyone can play. Just post, PM or email your picks at your convenience.
5. To minimize manual jobs in Pick's calculation, we need new format of picking.
You just copied the scoring points of the matches which you want to be picked, fill PAW No. in the [ ] right side of 'NO.'.
Choose the player who thought will win by put the X sign in [ ] left side of player's name.
If you want to cancel/delete your old pick, just give X sign in [ ] right of "delete" word.
Note : please copy a row completely and set insert "off" in your keyboard when you write your picks.
Example :
In Hongkong Open 2007,
I will choose Xie X.F., Yip P.Y & T.Hidayat for my PAWs, so I write
NO.[01] MT101: [X]Xingfang.Xie v [ ]C.Reid......(. 5 - 22 ) delete [ ]
NO.[02] MT102: [ ]Min.Jie.Pai. v [X]Pui.Yin.Yip.( 15 - 7 .) delete [ ]
NO.[03] MT119: [X]T.Hidayat... v [ ]Hong.Chen...(. 9 - 11 ) delete [ ]
then I want to delete my PAW01, I just write
NO.[01] MT101: [X]Xingfang.Xie v [ ]C.Reid......(. 5 - 22 ) delete [X]
I want replace it with Lu Lan as my PAW01, so I write
NO.[01] MT105: [X]Lan.Lu...... v [ ]S.C.Cheng...(. 7 - 14 ) delete [ ]
should indicate which of your 28 chosen fixtures it is. (So your last chosen fixture should be labelled PAW NO.[28])
This is to help me keep track of all your Picks; to help you keep track of each other's Picks; and to help you to keep track of your own Picks!
6. Please don't edit the surname of the players also don't edit the match (MT) number.
7. You should make your picks in the PAW thread, or send them to me by PM or email. If you email, do remember to include your badmintoncentral.com Forum handle.
8. You just need to send me your 28 picks over the course of the tournament.
9. The Scoring Points are derived using the BWF World Ranking System.
(addition : Ranking points of new pair in double will follow notional rank of BWF)
10. Of course, Picks must be made before the match begins. If there is a chance the match had started when the Pick was posted then that Pick cannot be accepted. This rule is applied very strictly.
Post Email your picks before the session of play begins to ensure your picks are accepted.
This is so everyone knows your pick was made before the match started. (Match start times are not recorded, so picks made five minutes before a match starts cannot normally be accepted.)
NOTE: There is a Closing Time for each match. The Closing Time is the time after which Picks will be deemed invalid.
12. Once a Pick is posted in the PAW thread, it may not be changed or deleted.
I frequently take copies of the thread text at regular intervals and the Picks are entered into a database.
NOTE: Invalid Picks (e.g. duplicates) may be re-entered. Please put them in a new post rather than editing the original one.
13. If a player withdraws before a match begins then all Picks for that match become invalid.
Replacement Picks may be made. If it is impossible to make a replacement Pick (for instance, if the match involved is the tournament final) it is unfortunate and no Scoring Points are awarded.
This rule applies to all matches not played. When a player retired during match, Scoring Points are awarded who picked the winner although the score just
1-0 retired
or deficit score, example : 18-21 5-5 retired.
14. Each player's points are tallied and the player with the most points at the end of the tournament is declared the winner. In the event of a tie there is no 'tiebreaker'.
15. The 'League Table' is maintained daily throughout the tournament. Here's an example the end of the tournament:
--------Player---------- .P .*W .*L .*Pts
*1. badMania............ .21 .18 ..3 .179
*2. madbad.............. .20 .17 ..3 .169
*3. ctjcad.............. .21 .16 ..5 .161
*4. Loh................. .21 .15 ..6 .150

*8. Sandy............... .21 .12 ..9 .132
...
...
29. XXXX................ ..5 ..4 ..1 ..27

16. The PAW Ranking System closely mirrors the WTA Ranking System. Ranking Points are awarded
according to positions in the Final League Table of each tournament.

17. You can play just one PAW game at a time. When more than one tournament is run simultaneously, and there are PAW games for each of them, you must choose one tournament to enter.
18. The decisions of the Organizer (that's me!) are final.
